  • Thanks mike. My name is Norman and I am new to 6 wheelers. Rode motorcycles all my life.
Bought a old max ii not running with broken sprocket. It had set for long time. Now it runs, but left side
Does not pull forward or reverse. Any ideas short of rebuild of skid steer. Thanks

    • Hi Norman, welcome to the forums. I would start by looking at the shift linkage, chains, etc on the left side. Then check the shift pin (search the transmission forum for more info regarding the shift pin). If that doesn't help, try starting a new thread in the transmission forum.

Live in gallatin, TN and new to the wheeling community. Just purchased a 1999 Argo conquest. Family into kayaking local streams so I thought the Argo would be my lazy mans kayak. First I found I need tires with tread. So looking at aquas. After my first day out I came back to the house and washed it off including u Der the hood. Mistake. Now it will not start. Got a lot to learn but should be fun. Might even get me to learn a little about mechanics.

        • HI Im Gary. I just moved back to Louisiana for my retirement. I had looked at the ARGO bigfoot and MAX II a number of years ago. Ended up buying a regular 4 wheeler. Now I am gonna get what I want. It will be a 6x6 or 8x8. Anyone know of any deals out there. I don't mind travelling a bit to pick it up. I will be using it for hunting and going places where most people cannot go. I am also interested in some organized rides as well. I am a decent cook and can cook some good cajun dishes or barbeque.

best deal on a turn key ride for sale now is one of our fellow members hustler Bigfoot that is listed on eBay right now. I have not seen it in person, but it has all the modern upgrades in the best four seat machine out there.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

I'd jump on this one, if I hadn't just built my own bigfoot (at more than $6k) http://www.6x6world.com/forums/aatvs...foot-sale.html
                And 60HP, wow.

New to the 8x8 arena. Just bought an 1999 Argo conquest. Learning a lot the hard way but having fun doing it. First day out I come back and give it a cleaning. Guess you aren't suppose to raise the hood and spray it off with water. Now it won't start. Might have to learn some mechanics

                  • Hello,
I purchased an older argo 8x8 (early 1970's) a few months ago. When I purchased it everything ran fine. It sat around for a couple months, and now I am trying to get it running realiably. It has a kohler 399ST engine and Tillston HR carb. A couple of weeks ago I replaced the condensers and points because it was only firing on one cylinder. This fixed the problem. I now have spark in both spark plugs. Before I replaced these parts it would fire up fine, but just bog down when I would go to take off. I attributed this to only running/firing on once cylinder. I thought this would fix the problem. Now, it won't start......I am hoping this has something to do with too much fuel. Fuel sprays out of the top of the carb, and is leaking slightly around the exhaust manifold. I was playing around alot w/ the fuel adjustments on the carb when it was only running on one cylinder. Looking online I found that a good starting point for the tilly carbs is one turn out on the idle and main screws and then go from there. Does that sound right? I am hoping that the starting doesn't have to do with the timing or the point gap. I set the points 0.016" however found this difficult to do, so they could be slightly off. I scribed a line in the stator plate when replacing the condensers so the timing can only be off slightly. Would a few millimeters be off enough for the engine not to start? Could someone also point me to a place to find a tool to test the timing?

I am a new argo owner, not too mechanically inclined, but willing to learn. I have enjoyed working on this maching so far, and just want to get it running good for hunting season, just around the corner. I have found a great deal of advice from this site already and looking for someone who can shed some light on my problem.

                    Thanks

                    • Gunn Gang and jchiotti, welcome to the site.

Gunn Gang, It doesn't typically hurt to hose off the inside of your machine. I do that after every ride but I try to keep it away from the fuse block, engine intake, etc. If you have let it dry out and it still won't start, it might be a dead battery, stuck starter solenoid, etc and not have anything to do with hosing it off.

jchiotti, I saw that you started a new thread in the engine forum for your specific technical question so hopefully someone can help you out there. One turn out on your carburetor adjustment is typically the recommended starting point so that sounds right

Reidsville, North Carolina here. Looking to climb hills, trail blaze, climb in and out of creek beds, take her swimming, mudding, and all the above. If it's dirty and outdoors count me in.
