Bought a 1999 Argo Conquest 8x8 on Saturday. I am located in Conifer, CO.
It came with tracks that were modified by the Argo dealer that used to be located in Grand Junction, CO. They extended the outside edge of the tracks with rubber and metal angle iron.
Has the hard top/roof but no canvas. I plan to use the argo mainly for cabin access at my family cabin in Fairplay, CO at 11,000ft. Our road is not maintained in winter and there is a lot of wind/drifting.
My first order of business is a trailer to haul this thing (the one in the photo was rented). The previous owner told me its nearly 7ft wide with the tracks on. So, most trailers are too narrow between the wheel wells. I plan on rebuilding an 8x8 snomobile trailer with a flat deck that I picked up for $40. I am thinking of building the lightest enclosed trailer I can on this platform. So, I can store the Argo in it when not in use, since I have no garage space. Also, it would be nice to show up at the cabin with a clean Argo rather than one covered in snow and ice from my drive up to Fairplay. Anybody on this forum attempted a trailer build like this?
Other than a trailer to haul it, my main list of modifications I'd like to build for this argo are:
1. LED Light Bars front and rear
2. Spare fuel tank holder (ie jerry can)
3. windows, doors, hardsided hardtop
4. cargo rack on roof, and possible on rear if I can fit it in a trailer.
Lastly, does anybody know if the carburetor can be tuned for better performance at 11,000 ft elevation?
Thanks!

Hi bluebruin, welcome to the forum. Congratulations on your purchase. That's a well-outfitted Conquest and a great looking Jeep as well. I can't help with the trailer question but for the carburetor, most small engine manufacturers offer a high altitude jet to keep the engine from running too rich.

Hello everyone. My name is Mike. I live in the Tri Cities area in TN. I just purchased a used 1996 Max IV from a guy in Hubert, NC. It runs great. It came with a lot of extras including tracks. I haven't put them on yet. I really have no idea how to do that but I'll figure it out. I'm new to this hobby. A buddy of mine has a Max and let me drive it so now I'm hooked...lol. I think this will be a good way to spend some quality time with the family and have fun doing it. I can't wait to take it out to the local ATV park and try it out on the trails. If anyone is close to the Tri Cities area and wants to get together and ride sometime, just let me know. Thanks. The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. Hey Mike. Thanks for the warm welcome. The closest ATV park is I81 Motor sports Park in Greene Co. TN. I don't know the exact address but it's on Jearoldstown Rd. It's a big park for this area. They have a website if you want to check it out. Just Google it. It's got a few dirt tracks for racing and over 500 acres and miles of trails. They are open 7 days a week year round. Rain or shine. Just hit me up if anyone is close and is interested in taking a ride. I look forward to meeting you all. Thanks again. The wicked flee when no man pursueth: but the righteous are bold as a lion. Hi Guys N Gals,
I'm new to the site, but not new to MAX ATV's. I previously owned a '96 MAX lV. Had to fix a lot of stuff on it, but finally sold it and wished I never did. Saw a '96 MAX ll posted on CL about a week ago and traded my 2000 Polaris ATV W/Plow for it straight across. I think it was a pretty even trade. Bummer is, the dude I traded with got it stolen from him last night, trailer and all. That really bummed me out, and of course him too. The MAX is in really good shape. It sat in his Mom's garage for about 9 years and was never used. The dude's ex-dad used it for deer hunting a few times and playing in the snow. He thinks it's only got about 200 hrs on it. Hard to tell at this point. Two of the chain adjusters are toast and the throttle cable rotted at the low point and broke second time I drove it. Had to rig a temp one to get it out of the wife's side of the garage. Got another on order. Should be here Wednesday and I'll start all over again. Bummer is there is snow on the ground and I can't play in it. Anyways, been reading a lot of posts and actually learned a few things on the site already. I am really interested in the single seat mod for mine. The single point turn mower seat looks really cool. I will look much deeper in to that real soon. The bench seat in mine is stock and beats the crap out of me. At my age that hurts. Well, here's to you folks! Be talking atcha. Our motto in the Strategic Air Command was "Peace is our Profession".
