My name is Al, and I live in Osoyoos BC, Canada just a 10 minute drive to Oroville WA 98844.
Yesterday I took the GF n her 4yo son for an hour and half drive in near 40 C degree weather to view a Muskateer. Ad said $500 bucks. We decided to purchase it so we put a deposit and will return next weekend with a trailer to pick it up.
When we got there we looked it over real good. It is a fiberglass tub model which is great as I have over 10 years exp in fiberglass work from mold building to custom boat repairs, kyak manufacturing, greenhouses, canopies, 35-40' fishing boats so ya I can repair or manufacture any tub/cover I need.
The seller lifted the unit up so I could view the underside and it's in great shape no cracks or bruises showing.
The axles seem tight, no up down slop little to no in out slop. Chains and sprockets (wonder if Spacely made em) show little wear. The unit's trans seems to function ok (hard to test real well with 4 fubar tires).
Engine is a 12 HP model of unkown brand looks like techumse. It started with a mild choke, and ran real fine. (needs muffler)
Now the downside is the tires, they are OEM's that have 30 years of weather checking and cracks in the sidewall. They are the rim/tire 1 piece variety.
I'll cheap it n try to use some good semi tire boots to patch the sidewall. Hopefully they will work so I can get a bit of fun out of the unit ASAP.
If not well it's time to find adapters from the 3 hole mount to a 4 hole or 5 hole so I can change up to better tires.
Take a look at the pic this is the unit thats the GF's son in there.
I'll be sanding the blue/grey camo off and painting it with a more appropriate desert camo that suites this area.

Anyone with stock tires cheap PM me as I would consider those for a season

Welcome to the amphibious forum Good luck with the purchase of the Muskateer This is the first one that I,ve ever seen and I was VERY impressed how well it looked for an amphib this old . It does not seem like its had much abuse . With all your experience in fiberglass repair I,m sure you can turn this Muskateer into a fine looking machine !

Ya other than tyres this thing is in quite nice shap. I'll be changing out the tail lights for LED models.....and likely get some LED for forward lights too..
I will be searching for tyres and attempting to cheap it out by repairing them for now......cash is tight once again
All in all, it's a good investment for my lifestyle, we can add some guages and do dads later on....just want to run it for now.....not much marsh or water bog areas here all dry desert in the Okanagan in BC...so it's fire roads and some mining roads for now.

Hi all I just bought an old Max IV(1980's I think) with a Kawasaki 440FC. I drove it for the first time today, what a blast. I'm now building a steel roll cage and a Sunbrella fabric and vinyl window cover. I can't wait for hunting season now!!

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"
Hello, my name is Jerrod from Sandwich, IL. I've been a swimming pool installer for the past 15 years and been riding motorized "things" since I was a young one. Go-karts, motorcycles, wierd 70's three wheelers, what ever! My father when I was younger could not walk away from an auction without some new toy. In about 1979?, he brought home an amphicat! I had never seen anything like it. Needless to say I loved that thing. When I went away to college my parents had an auction and sold it. Well 20 years later and I'm looking for a new 6x6 project. Anybody have a project they would like to get rid of? The pic is of Me, my brother, my sister, and my friend Patrick ridin the old Amphicat in the Sandwich homecoming parade 1981.
Hey Jerrod, welcome to the site! That is one great photo. Thanks for sharing. You can start a new thread in the wanted forum or check the for sale forum and hopefully find another 6x6 atv. Good luck.
Welcome to the amphibious forum and good luck in your quest to find an amphib project that appeals to you . If you,re looking for a good used one that won,t brake the bank account , you,ve sure come to the right place . Don , who is a forum member here , helped me and my friend find a GREAT deal on a 980 , Bigfoot Hustler , for $2,500 .
Thanks mudbug3! It sure feels like the right place. It's nice to have a place to go to talk about my addiction. AA (Amphib Anonymous)...some people just don't understand. The hunt is on!! Thanks again.
Hello everyone Iam a new member to this world, I just purchased an Argo 8 wheel Conquest. I needed something to get me to a duck blind that 4 wheelers and boats could not. I have owned 3 and 4 wheel ATV's for many years. The Argo seems to be what I needed. It is a 2002 model in real nice condition, 100 hrs but it does need tires. It has the runamucks on it and they do not pull well in the mud. I have been offered a new set of Rawhide tires with the rims for $4oo.oo I know this is cheap but they are 25 inch tires and the tires on the Conquest now are 22 in. How much clearance is needed between tires???? I think the 25's will almost touch one another.
I realy need the traction in the mud, I thought about tracks but I think I would prefer to stay with tires....I will put an outboard motor on it for the water.
Anyone out there know what to do???
