    • Hi Jeffrey, welcome to the site and congratulations on your Amphicat. You will probably learn most of what you need to know just taking the 6x6 apart but if you need any help don't hesitate to start a new thread in the "Other AATV" section of the site. Good luck with the rebuild.

I was going to buy an old jeep to fix up as a project, but now Im in the market for an old 6x6. They look like more fun then a jeep lol. Anyway I would like to say Hello and thanks for the website.

        • Hello Chris! If you hang around here too much you may end up with more than one 6x6 Good luck on your search.

          • Very nice web site. I tried this back when Route 6x6 was still out of California and have the Route 6x6 t-shirt with the Jigger on the front to prove it...traded an Attex banner for it. Anyway I live in New Berlin, WI and I have a 1993 MaxIV with a Kohler opposed twin. This was my 13th 6x6 and I liked it so much that I have had this one for 12 or 13 years now. With my back how it is now, I can't help but be more than interested in the suspension that Whipperag has designed. I can not believe how this 6x6 sport is growing again. Way too cool!

I think there are some currently active Max dealers up that way. I bought my Max II with tracks from a guy on route 7, just south of Burlington, VT. Welcome to all the new members!

                          • Hi from South Africa

                            Hey all

My name is Brett and i live in South Africa, i recently bought a 6x6 amphicat (i think) which is need of a complete rebuild ( will post pics a bit l8r).
Basically i ride quads and got this cat for next to nothing and decided it would be a good w/end project to try and rebuild.
It has been outside in the elements for a few years so it is rusted quite bad. Motor seems ok but everything else is rusted solid .
It has a Sachs 277 motor on it. Stripped the motor and thankfully has no rust inside and carb seems ok with minimal wear.

Tyres are going to be my biggest worry as 3 off them are completely stuffed, and in South Africa i am going to struggle to find some. Have you guys got asome suggestions for me as where to get some or how i can import some, (without it killing my bank account :P )

Chassis wise all seems ok just need to strip, sandblast and rebuild. I am a mechanical enigineer with CNC lathes so to make new bushes or fittings i am sorted.

Body is a bit fadded but also has a few cracks so need to send it into a plastic repair company to weld it up.

But basically that is my first "cat" and hopefully i can revieve it to its former glory.
                            Any suggestion are very welcome!

                            Thxs Brett

                            • Welcome Brett, I'll bet things are getting pretty crazy in South Africa right now. My wife and I went to Munich for the last World Cup and the atmosphere was wonderful. One of the best trips of my life!

                              • Hello 6x6 world. I recently bought my first 6x6 and have pretty much figured out that I don't like my four wheeler any more. I am very happy to see that there is such a good following for these here and I hope to be learning alot from the veterans here.

If you are around the Fayetteville NC Area and know anything about making repairs and maintenace please get up with me. I have a garage full of tools that need to be put to good use and a 400 thunderchief attex that needs to be a good solid ride.

My favorite riding spot is Busco Beach In Goldsboro, NC (the april 2010 ride was where I first saw the 6x6 and decided I needed to have one). Again Looking forward to meeting some of the other members. Again thanks for having such a good site, you all have a great community here.
