  • Hustler

I'm new to the 6x6 world and bought a hustler and they had no clue year or size. Can anyone tell me where the year and model may be stamped.

Some pictures would help a lot. Please post some up if you get a chance. What engine is in it? What size tires are on it?

              Yup, Dan's right.....it's a Hustler 950. It's an early to mid 1980's machine.

That would be 50# chain. I would suggest researching chain a bit and choosing a quality brand. Its really an investment in your machine.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Thanks for the help. This thing runs and the transmission seems to work fine but all the chains are rusted bad. All I paid for it is the gas to pick it up so I say I got a deal.

Thats a screaming deal!!! You can sure afford to spend a few bucks on quality chain then, and you will have a trail ready machine for still close to nothing.

That sure is a super deal! Get some Diamand, Morse, or US Tsubaki chain. Then yank that homemade cage off there, pressure wash the spray bomb camo paint job and you'll have a nice looking machine. You can get bearings for it from Buffalo Bearing. Tell them you're with 6x6World and they'll take good care of you. Their number is (716) 874-1720. For the outer bearings you'll need 62mm OD with 1-3/16" ID and make sure you tell them you need triple lip sealed ones with the "R3" at the end of the part number. Keep us updated on the progress. Hustlers are GREAT machines and we all love seeing a nice quality restoration.

Does it have the 18hp briggs opposed head twin? If it does I think it would be about an 84 or 85 model as those are the years they used that engine.

Ill have to take better look at engine I'm not sure. Do you have to have a special jet prop for these or could I use one off a old jet ski I have.

It's most likely the opposed twin 18HP Briggs I/C engine so like Dan said, that's probably it. Only the early 880 Hustlers with fiberglass bodies and completely different frames can use the jet pump. They had it as a factory option. It won't work with your 950 and isn't worth the effort to try to make it fit. Just get a decent set of tires that swim. Worry about getting it restored first.
