What would cause the T20 to have a high pitch whine when traveling forward ? Everything works good but has the whine noise .

    Bands worn out.

Could that be caused by using tracks all the time because that's what the guy did that i bought this machine from.

Tracks will put my strain on the drive system. Your going to want to pull the trans and open it. Hopefully the drum isn't scored to bad.

Thanks I'll let you know when I get it apart. Can the drums be turned to make them smooth?

I’ve heard of people turning them but I don’t know the specs.

I took .20 thousandth off mine and didn’t notice anything. Plenty of band adjustment left.

In a few days I'll know what I'm in for. Thanks a lot for the info, It's great to be able to reach out for advice with people that have the same hobby and a lot of trial and arras experience.

I got the tranny out and torn apart every thing looks good the band measured the same as the new ones but two of them had small pieces missing the out put shafts show some wear on the splines(not sure what is normal) the machine had 92 hours on it when I bought it and i don't think the fluid was changed, the drums looked good all the bearings look and feel good,am I missing anything?

look at the pins on the diamond shifters and make sure they aren't worn. Also look at the planetary gear components and make sure they all look good. Make sure all bearings rotate smoothly and are tight. If none of these indicate a problem I don't know what could cause the whine. Are you sure the whine was coming from the transmission?

yes the whine is coming from the tranny, I did notice that when I removed the tranny that the band plungers didn't look like they where even in the bores top and bottom, don't know if that could cause anything or not.

I felt I needed to turn the two out side drums on the lath because they looked rough as though the machining wasn't finished, I just used sand paper to get them smooth, there was some band material and fine metal in the bottom of the case.

I figured the stuff in the case was from break in since the oil hadn't been changed.

How much wear should you see on the out put shaft from the shift collar?

I have only been into three t20 transmissions and have seen very little wear on the splines between the output shaft and shift collar.
