  • Max IV suspension seat install with pics!

Hey all, I just got my Max all back together and thought I'd share my method for installing my suspension seat. It was pretty straight forward and turned out looking really nice. Hopefully it may help any of you out there that want to do the same.
Here is the mount I built. It's just two 2x6's cut to fit the width of the tub and two 2x4's to set on the frame rails, along with some l brackets to bolt it down. It makes for a seat height almost exactly the same as stock.

Here is it set in place....

and with the seat in place.

I painted it black to match the floor

This is all the trimming of the floor that is necessary. I was happy about that just in case I ever want to switch it back.

Last, here is the end result!

The only disadvantage I can see it that you can't pull up the floor without removing the seat. The one thing I will probably still do is trim the corners of the 2x6's to allow removal of the hold down nuts without using a swivel.

I can't wait to test it out!

Looks like a comfy ride now. Let us know how you like it. Do you think you will have any problems with the wood holding up?

That's a good question. Considering I've owned her since March and was only able to take her out for the first time about two weeks ago that kinda tells you how much use it will get. I was thinking of that though and used treated lumber for the top. I would have used treated 2x4's too but I was using up what I had around the house and I figured they would be easy enough to replace if needed later. I used oil based paint to protect the wood a bit too. On September 18th weekend she'll be hitting the trails again, so we'll see how it goes. I'll probably bring the old bench along just in case of catastrophic failure, but it seems like it will be fine. If not I'll bust out some angle iron and get to work on a steel mount.

where did you get the nice seat and how much was it ??
He who has not cruised the back country in a 6x6 , has not lived life to it's fullest
A Mans level of mechanical education directly corresponds to the level pain suffered while getting it

They sell them at Tractor Supply for $100, but I found it at a local place (to St. Louis) called Dickey Bub for $84. It's got a shock and springs, and with it adjusted to the correct angle it's got about 4" of travel. Also the spring tension is adjustable for body weights from 120lbs to 260 something (I think). It's got an adjustment knob and an indicator to get you to the right tension for you.

That's a really cheap way to get some comfort on the trail. Can't beat that.

I just got done testing her out in the field across the street and between correcting the tire pressure and the seat it's WAAAAAY better than it was. I may actually be able to ride for more than an hour and a half without racking my back and rattling some teeth out...
