Sound off with your Max type, Serial #, and Year

Just bought my first 6 wheeler. Max II - 1994, SN 10635.
It’s in really nice shape, but I don’t know much about them. Runs and idles fine, just not sure proper shift sequence. If lever is in neutral, do you just depress foot pedal brake to shift in forward or reverse or do you need to pull back steering levers as well? I haven’t had a chance to really try it yet, just don’t want to grind gears.

When ever shifting, make sure that your hand is not on the throttle, even a little bit.
When the gear lever is in NEUTRAL, you have to pull all the way back on both levers, to allow you to push/drop gear selector from NEUTRAL to FORWARD.
When shifting from NEUTRAL to REVERSE, you need to make sure that the levers are both all the way forward.
The "parking brake" pedal has nothing to do with shifting, but it may be wise to have it set in "park" as a safety precaution.

Be advised, that due to the nature of the T-20 transmission, you might need to "coax" it into gear. Some do the "rock from side to side" thing, but I let the levers go again and then pull them back slowly again....when in neutral, the gears are turning and when you pull back slowly on the levers, you are engaging the brakes, which will slow the gears down and that often is just enough to let the gears align and slide into place.

Thanks for the info. I did download the manual so I got some good info from there as well. I'm going to try it out tomorrow when I'm back home.

I also noticed my belt is the incorrect length. It's actually longer, yet still wants to creep forward when in gear, so I'll need to research belt removal, adjustment, etc. I'm hoping my clutches are still good and don't need rebuilt or worse yet new ones.

Just bought a MaxII and was told it was a 2001. This was sold to me by a guy who rebuilds these as a business and supposedly was friends with the owners of the company. Imagine my surprise when my serial number comes back to a 94! He was only off by 7 years! MAXII S/N 11056 1994

On edit, It has been pointed out to me that this post may be confusing. Just to be clear I got the date list from a chart I found on the internet and the dates on here just verified what I found out from there. The chart is shown below on someone elses thread and I also have ity linked in a post further down.

I kind of doubt that since it was his S/N list that led me to the real date but I am not a person to sling mud. When you think about it what is the difference between a 94 MAAXII and a 2001MAXII? The body is the same as far as I know, It has a 18 horse Briggs in it with the large axles. Other than the year what is the real difference? The seller is supposed to be setting me up with some spare tire and another set of control sticks since I had some trouble with it and he does feel bad about that so I don't really think he meant to deceive me. He did offer to take it back for a full refund, not like "It's yours, you bought it". And for what I paid in this area, they are very hard to find around here, in any brand for that matter.

When I said he does this as a business I meant he does it out of his garage and he travels around buying them as he finds them. He does not have a full time garage doing it.

The major difference would be splined axles and inner bearings versus bolted sprockets and inner bushings along with round head lights versus rectangular head lights.

Since you have posted this on this thread, could you please clarify it was or was not this "list" that lead you to the year determination.

Hi my Max II is serial number 18188 It has a full roll cage and a 25hp Kohler Magnum engine, which I was told by the original owner was a high-power option for the Max II?
I live near Leicester in England
