Oh you US guys get all the toys....I"ve been looking for a ridge runner for a while...twin track machine for SAR...nice I would think when all fixed up.

Oh well...maybe an old Alpine Ski-Do instead...but they don't steer worth crap.

That Ridge Runner is different than the one I'm picking up, the track on that does look like a Trackster. Good looking machine. The track on mine is open where the drive cogs are, like a snowmobile. The machine I'm picking up is just like the one in the YouTube video that was posted.

Got it home...pretty rough, probably a better parts machine than a project, needs alot of work and missing a track also.

Sonny...My machine is a different model than yours and the track looks to be different. Your track is a solid track, this one I have has slots on it to engage the drive cog, yours has lugs moulded into the track that engage a drive sprocket, ( just like my Trackster). Not sure what other parts are the same, maybe the engine and transmission.

yeh....your right.....I didn't realize that model had a toothed sprocket.....mine has more like a geared basket,, well the search goes on. im starting to suck out the nests from the city of mice that lived in mine and also figuring out how it works.....im looseing pressure on one side of the steering mech.....there are two little hydraulic pistons under that box that create pressure for the transmission,,,,i hope there rebuildable....I also had a squirrels nest in my muffler......well......they need a place to live to. your version is pretty cool its a shame it wasn't rescued earlier.. but if you part her out let me know I might grab some stuff.

You may have a Hagen or Rooter transmission in there. Is it sort of Triangular shaped?

Two halves bolted together? 4 hydraulic lines to it, two on each side to a circular looking cap about 1.75" diameter? If so those are annular pistons and if you look in my muscateer thread you will see video of how they work! If that is a hagen they are incredible in my opinion.

Take some pics and we can confirm.

thanks for the help muscateer, I guessing the little piston under the steehttp://www.6x6world.com/gallery/images/overlay-round.gifring needs attention, one side builds peruse the other very little.

im just figuring out how to upload pics on here....anyway here are some picture of my transmission and engine.....one side of the hydraulic stearing builds good pressure and the other building very little at the hagen transmission....can the little pistons under the steering arms be rebuilt? that was gonna be my next step. sonny

riotwarrior....Could you please post the link to your Hagen trans video, my Ridge Runner has one of these in it also, I'd like to know more about it. I got my engine,( Kohler 618 ), to fire this weekend, I'm thinking about using the engine and trans out of this thing for another project...

coop.... lol.....I was hoping you were gonna part it out.....cause I had the same idea ....that engine and transmission would make an great start to a custom project.

As for the annular pistons being rebuilt I'm not certain about that as I never dug into mine that deep. I do know that the main control cylinders on my Muscateer needed rebuilding. That helped me greatly in increasing pressure to the pistons. Also BLEEDING the system is important too.

The CAPS are bearing caps that cover a large nut and bearing assembly the allen head bolts around the larger circle are the actual annular piston!

I do have quite a good understanding of how these hagen transmissions work and litterally would give a left nut for another...so I can tear it down and learn more!

There should be two slotted screws with lock nuts 180 deg apart on the outside of each piston, those set the pistons travel.

I suppose I could do a thorough walk through video of what you guys may need for info if you like. Most of what I know has been the product of self discovery, trial and error and one big part....reading the damn patent on the transmission...

Yes Coop I can do that for you and hopefully you guys can deliver me some info back that I'm needing! Do either of you two have a small bell shaped device sticking off one of the upper caps? Those caps covering the bearings on one of the upper ones may have a VENT...I need detailed pictures of the vent and such, the vent should have a hex on the top of the bell shape.

Guys I have NO vent on my transmission and when it gets hot...and believe me it does...this heat causes pressure which pukes the fluid out all over the inside of my tub. I NEED A VENT ASAP and would like to see as I asked detailed images of one so I can either duplicate it or find something similar.

So here is my VIDEO... You need to go to my full build thread to see the pictures I speak of which is linked in my Muscateer out for a drive thread in other AATV's section

Hagen Transmission clutches and annular piston function - YouTube

There in my build thread you will see pictures of what came before this video....I kinda started my build thread over there on Oilburners.net in the LOUNGE section...

I see in swampballs upside down image here
that there is a vent as I describe and it's been done differently than most I have seen. I am thinking this could work...but I tried a similar setup and it puked fluid out all over which can be seen here in this video

Just go to youtube and search Muscateer AATV and all my vids are there or look here

There are a set of 3 IIRC with over views and descriptions of how the setup works....long drawn out but could be of help I dunno.

Good luck guys and please help me with a few good pics of the vent...and if that hex on top unscrews please open your vent for me to see so I can make one?????

for riotwarrior,, here is a picture of the breather...I unscrewed it and it seems to be pressed onto the hex bolt with the bell ...then some stainless wirewool and then a cup with holes in it....Its a simple thing to make.
