  • My blue Newt the Bold

Today Amphibious Drew picked up a really, really nice original Newt the Bold about 30 minutes from his place. This machine sat in the barn of the second owner for the past 20 something years. It's in beautiful condition under all the dust and mice nests. It has the original 12HP 4 stroke single cylinder Tecumseh with the 26x12x12 Goodyear Super Terra Grips with near new tread and no dry rot or weather checking. The original blue body, decals, and woodgrain dash are all in tact. With some buffing and waxing it's going to really shine. I was surprised that this one is blue because according to this sales brochure they were all yellow. It's the original color and was never painted because the blue is impregnated into the gel coat. With a tune up, some fresh gas, new chains, and bleeding air out of the left hydraulic line, this baby should be up and ready to go! Although it is missing the big blingin' grille up front, I think one can be sourced from an older Lincoln if I just can stand without having it on there. Then again, I think this thing needs to stay original so I'll manage to be alright without it.

Oh, and yes it really is that big! It's actually a tad bigger than my Super Swamp Fox!

The tub still looks in pretty good shape considering how old it is. Good find ! If its a tad bigger than your Super Swamp Fox , then it must be BIG!

Thanks, Dave. There actually wasn't even 1 crack in the thing. And absolutely, she's a big one for sure!

Odd that the grill is missing. Any info from the PO on what happened to it? You may have to get used to the plain look up front, as I would think finding a replacement would be just about impossible. Altough I am sure if another Newt owner were to let you borrow their's for a bit, a skilled metal shop could use it as a blueprint and fab you a close copy as a replacement. BTW... nice find, and in such terrific shape, too! Awesome!

I hate to say it, but it looks substantially cleaner without the grille, and it dwarfs that 6x12' trailer it's sitting on.

Another great find. I'm really going to like seeing this one operate.

EDIT:: I can't tell from the pseudo-side shot, but it almost looks like the axle spacing will let you fit 27s on it. 28s?

Leave it to JP to come up with the obscurest of the obscure! Nice find, Jeff! Start stalking the parking lots for an old Lincoln grill-doner!
Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

JP, is the power to the wheels hydraulic or are the axles turned with chains and sprockets?

The hydraulic tranny runs to a jackshaft and then to chains from there out.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

                            Hey Dan,
The hydraulics control the gearbox. Its not hydraulically driven.
