  • Gas tank issue

    Hi Everyone,
Its been a while since i've posted but I was hoping someone could shed some light on my issue. I have a attex tamahawk with the techumseh OH16O in it, and I am getting no fuel out of the tank. If i turn on the fuel valve nothing flows down the fuel line to the filter, but when I shoot some air up the line or down through the gas cap, fuel starts flowing normally. I get all excited and the shut the valve off, wait a minute for the fuel to stop completely, turn it back on and sadly, nothing comes out again.
    Thanks in advance,
    Amphibiousdrew

throw out the line and filter. should be around $15 to replace both. you probably have some debris in the line that is getting stuck somewhere. also clean the pickup screen at the end of the fuel line inside the tank, or replace it.

Thanks racerone. I have all new line from the tank to the engine as well as a brand new fuel filter already. I guess I'll see if I can't figure out how to get to the pick up screen in the tank. I figured it had to be something in the tank, just didn't know what what in there that could be causing the issue.

take a piece of rigid wire (old coat hanger) and bend a hook in the end. fish in the tank till you catch the line. pull it up and out the gas cap hole and put a pair of vice grips lightly on the line to keep it from falling back in the hole. then pull off the screen. soak it in acetone and blow it out with compressed air. if it's too far gone you can put a small fuel filter on it, or leave it off. on the machines where i've deleted the screen, i run a nut up on the end of the line to make sure it has some weight to keep it near the bottom of the tank

My Tomahawk is running now. I picked everyones brain at Ashtabula, and was really pumped up after seeing everyone playing around saturday. So after 3 hours of yard work, a trip to Wall-mart for a clear fuel filter, and a few hours of tinkering I had her sounding pretty mean in the garage.

Glad to hear! The Tomahawk is a really great machine. I must have missed you at Ashtabula.........glad to hear you made it though.

Thanks JP. Yeah I didn't get to talk to meet you there for some reason, or at least not formally introduced. I think I broke a band in my T-20 test driving it around the yard. I knew that engine sounded mean. If anyone is interested in swapping T-20's, my bad for your good, or is willing to rebuild mine for me, I can barter my hard plastic argo brand tracks that came with my Attex for it. I live in Meadville PA and I know there are people relatively close. I am willing to drive 5 hours each way for the trade.

                Hey Drew,

Glad to hear the 'Hawk is up and running. What makes you think it's a band? Do you just not have braking or engagement in one of the directions on one side, or both directions on one side? Which side seems to be having the issue? Did you ever post pics of those tracks? I'll search around....

                  Mike,
Me and my son were tearing up the yard having a blast and I lost everything on the right stick. I had to drive it back to the garage using the left stick only and picking up the front to turn it. I'm tempted to try and fix it myself, but would rather have it done right. I sent jpswift a pm to see if I could barter with him as he is pretty close to me. If I can't find a way to barter the job I will attempt the rebuild myself, but some of the posts make the rebuild sound scary, financially and technically. Do you really need the specialty tools richards relecs sells or are those just add on purchases they try to sell you?

                      Thanks Larry,
I'm pretty bad with names too. I tried to talk to everyone there which makes it even harder. Jpswift and I are meeting up Saturday and hopefully all will be well. If it wasn't for everyone there giving me advice, I wouldn't even have had the opportunity to break a few bands.

I look forward to helping you get the Tomahawk back on the trails, Drew. See you soon.

I appreciate the assistance jpswift. I am going to loose sleep all week thinking about riding your machines around. I already pulled the T20 out. I wanted to make sure that I didn't do it last minute and run into problems. It was much easier than I thought it would be too. It wasn't even awkward getting it out of the machine by myself.

Pulling a T-20 out of an Attex, Max IV or a Hustler usually isn't too bad of a task. Glad to hear everything went smooth.

We'll we got the T-20 out, jpswift got a new output shaft drive from recreatives and I put it back in the 'hawk on Saturday. 5 minutes later I lost forward again. I just finished tearing the transmission apart and putting it back together again to find that the band pin came loose causing forward to fail. I'm hoping that it was just a goof putting it back together the first time as we finished around 11:30 on friday night. Tomorrow, I'll slap the tranny back in and see how she holds up. Worse case, I gotta get a couple of band pins from RI.
