if you want to save $$, just cut a couple 2x6's slightly longer than the width of your lower tub/skid-plate. Place them horizontally under machine (one in front, one in rear) to span from frame-rail to frame-rail. A couple pumps on a floor jack and you're set. I just block up end and use the jack to hold the other end unless I have a lot of work to do - then I'll block up both sides. Distributes the machine weight on the frame w/o any pressure points on the plastic. Takes a few seconds and you're up in the air. Everything is easier (especially when it comes to chains) if the tires aren't touching.

so I pulled the spacers out of each track and aired the corner tires up tp 6lbs each.tracks look to have about 1.5" of sag and that's as good as its gonna get.went back to same hill that I got stuck on yesterday and never had any slippage.took a nice long tour up through the hardwoods without an issue.only felt a little slippage once while turning other then that everything feels good.sees to have a little more power and it turns better with the bigger tires in the center.next test will be when I plow, thats when I noticed the slippage before.i suppose I can air up to 7lbs on the corners if its an issue.

Often wondered how a machine would fare with tuners only on axle 3.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

The reason it was always pondered was a front flat which will render the machine all but useless, even to get out of the tracks (try it if your ambitious as it unsold a set of tuners). The 2nd axle carries near as much weight as the first so in certain terrain situations, with the raised axles on the ends, could cause track slip.
The wind up should be eased by the third freewheeling?

Plott,
You may want to play with increasing the rear tire pressure to help it touch the ground a bit better (=better traction for the rear tire in track) due to the banana frame of the HDIs and front heaviness of Argos on general. You can play with decreasing the front to offset the track tension if you think it may be getting too tight.

a rubber track has to be tight to reliably perform under load in some conditions. Doesn't matter if all 8 tires are driving or only the (4) corners are driving. If the track is loose, even a little bit, and you encounter loaded situations (especially if the inside surface is slicked up a bit), you'll have a tendency to slip the tires and will fail to drive the track. Sometimes it's intermittent and can be overcome by using momentum and feathering of the throttle, other times not so much.
Argo Rubber Track has to be tight in bad conditions. That's the most critical...and that you keep all (4) corners driving.
Other times, the extra load required to slip the center axles is significant, and the benefit of the tuners is pretty huge. Track tension on a rubber track is paramount.
All track styles have different traits.

well after a few days of spring like conditions here our snow is pretty much gonzo.i did take a run this afternoon up through the hardwoods for an hour or so.climbed a few logs with no slippage machine seems to drive well without altering my tire preasure.only thing I noticed was a bit of chain chatter from the right side.checked the chains and they seem real tight.would a tight track cause the chains to be tight or is it normal to have tight chains when using tracks?never much if any chain noise without the tuners and having indexed the tires.
cheers

the past 24 hours has left us with some real heavy wet snow followed by freezing rain.put the plow back on the argo after work to test the tracks out.absolutely no tire slippage in the tracks, lots of grunt pushing that heavy juicy snow around.however when backing up I'm getting chain windup in the 2 rear chains.bang bang sound at about every rotation that was not there before.would front tires larger then the rears cause this?hate to pull the tracks off again because next time I do the tuners are coming off.
