  • Ways of upgrading SuperTracks.

When I bought my Magnum 90, it had already the SuperTracks fitted on. Until changing all tires to the newer Carlisle Argo 22-10-08 and giving it much better traction in uphill situation I was wondering if some of you guys made addition of some kind like metal or rubber spikes of whatever to maximize without going to rubber tracks. The reason for me not purchasing rubber tracks being my Argo of a much older generation will be in conflict once I by a newer one in terms of size etc. Thanks for any input.

handbrake, a few guys do add metal cleats to their tracks for better traction particularly on ice. There are a few threads on the topic here on the forums. If you will use the search you should be able to find them. There are also some pictures of it in the gallery. Here are a couple to get you started:

Hi, I have the Argo Big Foot 2004 6x6, I have to change tires to Run a muks for my tracks to fit, the year before the soft rubber tracks came in. My links on my tracks are hard plastic and wore after 2 seasons, I drilled holes through each side of the tracks (inside and outside the tires) put bolts with washers on both ends and 1 inch light chain crossing the track where it was worn. I did this about every 6 to 8 inches, they work great in the snow, mud and work really nice to take the top layer off after we experience a freezing rain here in Ontario. Lots of traction.

Thanks for your inputs &reference photos. Thinking of installing rubber cleats on the inside (tub side) not to damage upper tub casing, on the outside probably with metals sawtooth type but will consider the cross chain you mentioned although in those years with the 20" Supertracks we where lacking gap to upper body. In a climbing situation you are mostly paddling snow that's where I'm looking for that rubber adhesion.

The cross chains across the track pad sounds like a good idea. I was out on the river yesturday. Keep in mind 10 inches of ice and loose snow on top. Now...... I have read where the Supertracks will ice up. Well ice up they did but not where I expected them to. The ice build up is on the inside of the track dead center of the pad. I also noted snow/ice build up on the centre of the track on the outside surface. The traction surface of the Supertrack is great for leaving the ARGO stamp in the wet snow.... but the track is square sided and holds the snow/ice. ****HAS ANYONE MODIFIED THE SUPERTRACKS BY DRILLING HOLES IN THE PAD TO REDUCE THE ICE BUILDUP**** I am thinking that if there were holes within the squares, the ice would be pushed in and out by the tires and irregular surfaces of the ground. My modification today was to use a ski pole and knock off the ice when the buildup caused the track to slap.

All I've done with mine is add 3/8" x 1.5" bolts through the factory holes. Helps enough for most of what I do with them, but I'm thinking I might want to add more traction in the future

I cut 18" slices of conveyor belt and used bolts and bolted to both cleat holes. Figured a strip on each would do well, great traction, but bounced around so rough. Figured I was going to shake something loose, so after all that work I removed them. Still looking for a way to pad them

Rubber cleats for supertracks? Where could I find some of those?
