I tried to install the new rear chains but they are to tight to pull together by hand. Is it to tight or normal?

It's not uncommon to have to use needle nose pliers or other tools to pull the two ends together. As long as you have cut the chain the correct length (pin count) it won't be too tight. New chain will stretch a little when you start running it.

Curtis, If you have the wheels off of the ground you can hold one still with your knee and turn the other one to tighten the chain on the bottom and force all of the extra to the top.I find it easiest if you try to have the chains meet on top of or near a sprocket.Originally posted by curtisbyrne View PostI tried to install the new rear chains but they are to tight to pull together by hand. Yeah I think I do need vice grips. Tried some heavy duty electrical wire only thing I had around at the time and pulled the two ends together with the help of vice grips pulling in the wire and it came so close ( where is that extra hand whenever you need it) I will try ziptie and if that don't work vice grips it is

That's the one I use. I got it at the same time I got my chain breaker on Amazon. They were both worth much more than I paid for them!!!!! They were also in my tool box this year on the trail. Thankfully they stayed there!Originally posted by glen1971 View Post
