  • Hi dana265 and Eric. Welcome to the forum. Look in the max forum. There is a thread with serial numbers. They are in sequential order so you can compare yours to other members' numbers. You can also call the manufacturer and get the year from your serial number.

Eric, there is a decent sized group of us that ride in Goldsboro, NC at Busco Beach twice a year. Check the trail ride forum for more information and try to join us if you can.

          • Thanks,

I'll have to flip the tires and try the pond again (I'll first check to see how they are facing). We got two sets of tires when we bought the ARGO. However, the priveous owner told us one set was for use with the track and the other to run on the ground. The set used with the track have a tread that goes all the way accross with a curve. The other set look more like traditional ATV tires. I was also thinking the set with the track may also swim. Time to experement. Thanks for your help. BC

              • Hello all, I have been creeping the forums and gallery since January just to see what everyone is building. I figured it's time I introduced myself, I'm in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada and around here it's almost all Argo's with the occasional Prairie Bobcat. I train and maintain an Avenger 8x8 EFI on rubber tracks with the local Fire Department. We bought it in 2008 for OHV rescues/patient transport as well as a support unit for wildland firefighting. I bought a couple of older aArgo 6x6 basket cases this past winter and have been making plans to get one of them up and running as time and money allow, just for fun. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.

                  • Hi everybody. I'm a retired special metals welder living in the Fraser Valley in B.C. Having built specialty vehicles all my life, I've decided to try my hand at a 6x6 . Should anyone be able to recommend some good plans I would be grateful. Or, perhaps a restoration would be possible if someone in my area has an older unit available? Thanks for any info you could provide, and we'll see how things proceed from here!

                    • Welcome rdcweldor,

There are several threads on here where members have built their own units from scratch. They are usually in the other makes aatv section. That should give you a starting point if you go that route. If you decide a rebuild is more for you, just search for threads on your machine, and I am certain something will be there to help you. If you like, start your own build thread so we can help out and follow along.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

                      • Thanks amphibious drew. Nice to have a first response and for the encouragement. I read one of the original articles on the Attex in Popular Mechanix or one of those magazines in the late '60s and have been fascinated ever since. I've built about fourteen tube-chassis off-roaders but the 6x6 idea has always stuck with me. For my purposes a vehicle that is amphibious is not essential, but to stay dry is a bonus! If I had a choice, a restoration would be preferable if I were able to find an old vehicle, but I still have all my equipment from my R&D fab shop, so a scratch-build is possible. I have absolutely zero experience with 6x6s but should anyone need a little welding advice, I'd be glad to help. Thanks again.

                        • Not amphibious but a cool Vehicle

Hello all.........My name is Dave but most of my family calls me pop pop.
This is my first post(it probably belongs elsewhere!!) I'm in my sixties and have slipped into the abyss of my 2nd childhood.....seeins by some of the posts here....looks like I'll fit right in!!!
I've been wantin a 6x6 for decades and have always put off buyin one.I found one on the south jersey section of Craigslist....an attex "jlo 297 motor'd critter in need of just about everything...for 500 bucks.I don't know if it's a 69 or early 70's model....no title but he says he'd provide a notorized bill of sale for it.....................at any rate I'll probably pass on it...for now

I'd LIKE to build a tracked go kart I bought plans for off ebay from a sharp young fella name of Allan....he's an Mech.engineer by trade.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GRPH................I was hopefull of getting comments on it....and some comments on the attex I checked out. Thanks all.

                          • Welcome to the site pop pop, youre right, im sure this thread will be moved, but thats okay. There are a lot of great people floating around here. You have any question, 6x6 or not, someone here will know the answer. Ive seen that video before of the tracked go kart, pretty cool thats for sure! personally, Id go with the 6x6, you just cant beat'em! Im not very familiar with the Attex, but there are several members on here that are master minds with them, and race them. Look under the general 6x6 discussion link on the main forum page. Theres a thread called "video time" which has several posts of attex videos. If you got a 6x6, and take it out for a spin, on land or water, you will be hooked. I bought my first one in December of 2011, still have it, and you'd have to pry it from my dead fingers before I parted ways with it! I love it! Ive had four wheelers, dirt bikes, jacked up golf carts, three wheelers....this is hands down the funnest thing I have ever driven, and since i bought it, I have really put it through its paces. Only thing i have had to do is maintenance! Good luck with your search!

                            • Thanks for your reply Mikey!!...............My search for an amphibious ATV will continue....the one I found for 500$....with no title has too many issues for me to seriously consider at this time.
I'll keep my eyes open for a good used one.....maybe someone will read this post and suggest where I may be able to find one here in New Jersey.

                              • No problem, keep your eye on Craigslist, or what I used to find my atv was searchtempest.com. It allows you to search Craigslist ads in set mile radius' instead of having to search one at a time. If you find one, don't be afraid to ask questions, and search the forum for topics
