    • Welcome to the site Roadeored! You are right these things are a blast to ride. Keep an eye on the ads in the for sale section, set a price that fits your budget and go for it. In the meantime, read the buyers guide http://www.6x6world.com/forums/gener...ers-guide.html or http://www.6x6world.com/images/pre-p...yers-Guide.pdf you will find a lot of helpful info for those less familiar with these machines in there. Also read all you can and feel free to ask questions, even the "dumb" ones, the more you know when it comes time to seal a deal, the more confident and happy you be with your purchase. Also how mechanically inclined are you, this will also help you decide if you want a ride ready(sometimes cheaper, sometimes not) machine or a project.

      • HI everyone, I'm new to 6x6s. I recently acquired a Hustler in need of major TLC. It had been sitting out in the TX weather for what seems like forever. When I got it, it had about 6" of muck inside the body. The upper portion was cracked in several places and the front seat was missing about a third. The engine was froze up. Since then, I cleaned out the insides and found that almost everything had a heavy coat of rust. Several of the bearings were froze, along with the engine. I managed to get the frame out only to discover that it had more rust holes than a piece of Swiss Chees. I was able to repair some and re-enforce others. The transmission was a mess with one side frozen. I have rebuilt the transmission. I may have to replace a couple of bands later but they are appeared serviceable when I inspected them. When I took the heads off of the engine I found that the pistons were frozen in the cylinder. With a little help from a press and some WD-40, I was able to push them out. The cylinder was are in good shape with very little wear. I have new pistons on order. The engine appears to be a Kohler K440-2AX. But I' not 100% sure since most of the placards and labels are faded out or missing. I really not even sure what model Hustler I have. Let me describe it and maybe someone can help. It is supposed to be a four seat (2 front / rear),. The control handles(2) are located on the left with two (2) shifters (one for each side for the transmission. The parking brake (which is trashed) is located on the extreme left under the front seat. If anyone has any idea as to what model it is I could use the help. To date, I have cleaned up the hull and patched all of the holes at or below the water line. I am about 75% done repair the damage to the upper body. The transmission is rebuilt (I hope I did it correctly ...LOL) and on the frame. The lower portion of the engine has been assembled and I am waiting on new pistons and gaskets before I put it back together. Getting ready to rebuild the carburetor. If all goes well, I hope to be able to "Bench Test" the engine and transmission by Thanksgiving. Without any other complications, I should have it on the ground and running by Christmas. Hopefully by February, I'll have the winch and all of the accessories and cosmetics completed. If anyone has more info, I can be reached on this site, or, my email is maddadpostal@dishmail.net and my cell is 972-841-1580.

        • Hi yykg0b, welcome to the forum. It sounds like you have already done a great deal of work on your Hustler. Upload some photos of it to the gallery and I'm sure someone will be able to identify it for you. Good luck with the completion of your rebuild. It will be well worth it.

Welcome to the forum. We have a number of Russian members here and maybe you could get together with a few of them and check out their machines. I have a Max IV with the 23hp Briggs. I love the engine. I never seem to run out of power, and I have also replaced the original spring in the driven clutch with a red spring to keep it in low gear longer. Good luck with your search for more power.

                      • Just bought what I believe is a 2000 model Max IV. Love this machine. It came with a dual wheel set up. Had to remove to get on the trailer though. Located in South central Louisiana. I do have a issue with the tub. It was evidently place to close to a heater at one time as the front has a big hole melted in it.

                        • Welcome to the site tldcod. The Max IV is a great machine and the dually kit is way cool. You have a few options to make your tub right. You could call RI and get a blemished one from Matt O. He has some blemished tubs I know he would rather sell than move with the factory. Plastic welding the hole closed or a patch in it would be your other option. I have done this before, and it is a tedious process, but not very difficult. Patience and not over working one section by staying there too long is key. I have scrap hdpe from a max lower laying around if you want to give it a try. Pm me if your interested.

                              • I'm brand new to these AATVs. I saw a max II the other day and since have been obsessing over buying some sort of 6x6 or 8x8. I live in Minnesota and think this is the best way to make the winters better.
