Thanks for the kind words Tbone but I just hang out here. You should definitely try to make one of the group rides even if you have to drive for several hours. There's nothing like riding with other AATVs.

I am new to amphibious atvs, I picked up a max II after watching countless hours of YouTube videos of people having a great time and being able to go anywhere anytime, which is nice because where I live is notorious for flooding. I was also wondering if there are any good places to ride or groups in Idaho or eastern Oregon? I haven't seen anything this far west but that may just be me.

Here's my first post. I've been looking at this website a bit after purchasing my new Argo, well new to me...she's an 1985 Argo I/C 8X8 with the 17HP Kohler engine. The person I purchased it from said it was an 1984 although the registry place said it was an 1985 after they entered the KB# into there system, so I'm assuming there right haha. It came with the cab and the tracks as seen in the picture below (hopefully the whole process to upload pictures worked for me).
I'm from Northern Alberta and have always wanted an Argo every since I seen one when I was young. I grew up with quads and actually own a few, but here I am today, with my own Argo 8X8
I am now looking for a another Argo 8X8 for having a whole bunch of spare parts, so if anyone in Alberta has one for sale let me know! I found an 1981, although it was with the Kohler Series I engine and the hydraulic brakes were a bit different. I did a bit of research and found out that the Series I engine is not as great!? Please let me know what you think...Anywho, the price wasn't right either so I decided to wait a bit to see if I can't find anything else. So ya my plan is to get to know my Argo inside and out and take it apart and make sure everything is up to par before I head into the bush too far. I do have the body sag and the body is a bit damaged from the previous owner as the tracks rubbed on the body a bit, so I would like to fix that before proceeding with the tracks. I already found a few posts on here with some great suggestions about this issue.

My name is Tom Megna. I have a 1995 Argo Conquest 8x8. It has been good to me but, recently I couldn't't read the dip stop and added to much oil. When I started it white smoke can out, and then the unit died. Any idea of where to start my repairs.
Tom, if you will just drain the oil, or use a suction pump to suck it back out the dipstick, to the proper level you will be fine. It still may smoke for a few minutes but it will eventually clear out. Welcome to the forum.
This is my first post here. I'm not new to forums, I'm on the Ultimate Jeep and RV.net forums too. (As well as others such as photography) I have a well equipped Jeep Commander. (Lifted, big tires, winch, multiple LED lightbars, etc.) I also have a 40' diesel motorcoach and pull the Jeep behind it to places like Moab Utah and Ouray Colorado.
But, this is my FIRST 6x6. I've been eyeballing the things for years and hunting craiglist and eBay. It always seemed that they come up for sale 2,000 miles or more away. Finally, one that actually RUNS (not a parts collection) appeared in a city 3 hours away, and I made the drive last weekend.
Before heading up there, and talking to the seller a few times on the phone, I built a platform in my "patina" 1967 Chevy truck. It only LOOKS old. Here it is still on the truck:
Another view of ramp version 1.0. It was scary as heck to back her up because of the step on the platform I built. That platform does work good in that she has a flat floor to sit on.
Here's ramp version 2.0 now that I actually have the 6x6 in my possession. (I built the first setup sight-unseen) The angle is MUCH better, the tip-up isn't extreme now. I also put oil change ramps under the front of the truck, so it's more tame now.
And, my "new" 1986 serial #7400 Max II 6x6:
I removed the peeling camouflage covering, repaired a hacked up back end. The previous owner shoehorned in a V-twin 20 HP Vanguard. I have many more plans for it, I'm just getting started.
And, an "after" shot. I used an old surplus oscilloscope lid. It's 1/16" aluminum with 3/16" holes. It weighs next to nothing but is tough.
The "bumper" I made to stop the Max before it hits the cab of the truck.
The back end "hole filler" for the side of the platform.
The entire platform comes out within 3 minutes. The main piece slides out, the two "hole fillers" on the side, and the bumper piece, and it's a normal truck again.
The Vanguard 20HP:
That hack-job of a dash is next... it'll be an aluminum panel blank with matching switches and a Hobbs hours meter when I'm done. (Maybe by this weekend) I plan on a 30 inch LED bar on the roll cage, 27 watt LED floods facing backwards.
