  • Good day all!
I found this forum while searching for information on the Arnold Ferret (Ranger) Track ATV made(Pengilly MN) 5 miles from my home town of Nashwauk MN.
I just purchased one and the previous owner had a parts breakdown that I have scanned and thought this may be a good site to post this information on. There are no parts available other than old machines that are being parted out. I work with several guys that worked for Mr. Arnold back in the early '70's building these ATV's. There are a lot of them still around this area.

    • CJ and Greg, welcome to the site. Greg, there are a couple of Ranger owners on the board so that information would certainly be helpful. Do you have any pictures of the one you have? If so, upload them to the gallery so we can see what you have. Those are some cool machines. If you want to share the parts breakdown for the literature section of the site, I will upload it for you if you email it to me.

      • I have a MAX 4 ATV. I am not a great mechanic, there's a guy in town who helps me with things.

I do have a question. The old engine I had was ruined so I put a Honda engine on it but the new gas is a mess. Do the fuel injected engines work better with the gas or does it gum those up, too?

        Thanks

todays lousy gas messes with everything. while injectors aren't as sensitive as carburators, our small engines are all runing the same type of fuel lines, and filters. the ethanol in todays fuel is notorious for breaking down rubber fuel line that's just a couple years old. once chunks of rubber or worse rubber that has turned to goo from the inside of the line, get into the filter or pump or injectors your just as bad off as you would be with a carb. best thing to do is replace all fuel line and the filter and plan on replacing them again in a couple years. also run stabil for ethanol (the blue stuff anbout 1/2 way down this page) Deprecated Browser Error or seafoam Sea Foam | Motor Treatment in your fuel

            • Hello, my name is Jack. I just recently picked up from my mothers house a six-wheeler that has been in the family since it was new. I dont know a lot about this thing, i was pretty young at the time we got it. I do know it was made in Moscow, Iowa in the mid-70's and we called it a centipede. It is in really rough shape but the engine will turn when you pull the cord, which is one of the few good sighns from it. My question is, how rare are these things now and is it even worth trying to get into working order, if the parts are even available for reasonable prices? Most of the inner metal frame work is really rusted, the lower body has a few breaks in it, the wiring is shot, all tires are bad, etc. etc.. Any info/advice would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

              • Hi Jack, welcome to the site. It sounds like you have a Camel Centipede. There are a couple of brochures on them in the brochure section of the site: Camel Centipede Many of the parts are often found at your local auto parts store. Chain, bearings, etc. can be sourced through your local bearing supply house. Plastic tubs can often be repaired. Wiring is pretty simple. It really depends on how much work you want to put into it, but any 6x6 can be fixed. The Centipede is one of the more rare ATVs and if you plan on keeping it for sentimental reasons, I think it would be worth fixing up. I guess it depends on just how bad it is and what your ultimate plans for it are.

                      • Awesome! Another WNYer!

Welcome to the Site Old Man!

There are a bunch of us here in WNY; do you want to divulge what town you're from? Several of us typically get together for fall and winter rides on Grand Island along some power/gas lines. There is also a trail system (disputed legality for ATVs in the winter) between Pendleton and Lockport.

Tell us more about your Argo, and post some pictures. We like pictures...

                        • Welcome all the new guys. Feel free to post any questions, comments and answers!

Jack, you need to be the centipede guru! I know how it is at first not knowing much on the machines but you will learn and figure stuff out. Please post all you can on it and tell us what you are doing with it as you progress! Learn and share, the centipedes are cool and rare, lol. Seriously though, good luck on it! There are a few other centipede owners out there but they are pretty rare. If you have any specific questions let us now. We will help best we can.

Trailboss, Thats another one that is around much on the site. Sounds like got it going. Some trailboss video or even some pictures in action would be cool!!!(hint) If you are looking for places to ride or people to ride with I would post a question in the local 6x6 World members section. I think you would get a better response then here.

                          old man argo,
Boy oh boy are you in a lucky spot. Lots of good guys over there. If your looking for some good riding buddies you shouldn't have to look far!

                          • Hi all, my name is Gary I’m from Longford in Ireland. Firstly I would like to say what a great site and well done to everyone involved . Here is my 2 cents worth. In Ireland AATV’s are few and far between however I have the option of buying an ARGO 8X8, I believe it’s a Vanguard model. I will post a tread in more detail with the heading Irish 8x8 Help. As Information on these machines is not easy to get here in Ireland hopefully I will find out all I need here…. Again thanks to all for such a great resource

                            • Welcome to the site to all the new members. There are tons of us around the Western NY area, so come and join us for some riding sometime!

And wings356, this is the biggest and best site for these machines so I'd highly recommend getting that Argo. There are so many experts on this site, I feel very confident that everyone would be able to help you keep that Argo up and running if you decide to buy it. Here is the used AATV buyer's guide to look over before you decide to buy that Argo.

                              • Thanks all for the welcome and info. I work in the construction industry and will be done for the season, cant lay asphault over snow, lol. I will start the deconstruction phase on the centepede this winter to get a better idea of just how bad things are. I will try to take plenty of pictures along the way, both to post and for referance purposes. I will be giving it a shot at repairing this thing mainly for the coolness of it and not seeing many of them around here. Might even take it to some car shows with my 74 Dodge Challenger i am also restoring. Let the work begin.
