  • Hello Mike & all Members not to savy on computer but would like to say hello to all members . I will introduce my self Green Wing from South East Texas . Been reading blogs on site for awhile always interested in 6x6's but never owned one until recently bought a Max iv off Craigs list 98 model with low hours. Already running into small problems oil sweeper ring stuck on one cylinder but still good compression. Started doing mods built full wrap front bumper with welded on receiver hitch .used 50 amp 220 plugs built into front & back to connect winch leads then built receiver base added remote cont. winch witch failed once already so rewired to have back up toggle control also bought 1/2" 45 deg. pipe fittings and staggered controls 4" over to give front passenger leg room.Max didn't come with manual so not sure on adjustments. Need help on finding manual and don"t understand reason for running tire treads backwards wright now running front & mid forward & rear backward?

    • Welcome green wing,
The reason for the tires in certain ways is if ther run with top of tire pointing forward the grip good in mud but dont swim well. You need the point on top of tire facing backwards so when it hits water it scoops to help you get water speed. It dont mud as well though. Welcome to the site. RI is still around and you can probably get a manual from them at Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511

You will probably get a better responce if you ask in the max section of the site, tire section or general questions area. This section dont get the output as well as the other sections as its easy to miss stuff here.
Have fun on your machine! Looks like you got some cool mods all ready!

      • Hi green wing. Welcome to the site. For the tires, you run them backwards in order to gain forward motion in the water. The tires swim the fastest that way. If you run them the other way you wont get much if any water speed. Congratulations on your Max. Hope you get the engine trouble sorted out and back going again.

          • Hello from Jackson, Mississippi!

New to AATV scene and am seriously considering a new Max IV with all of the trimmings. Hope to be able to swing the deal by year's end. I am impressed with this site and the capabilities of all of the different AATV machines. I can't understand why anyone would want a 4-wheeler given the differences in capabilities between the two platforms, but to each his own.

I remember our game warden back home in Illinois where I grew up had bought a very used AmphiCat to use in his job. When it ran, it ran well...it just didn't run very often. Given the problems associated with the older vehicles it seems there is a stigma about these vehicles in the general public. I'm amazed how much better the new models are and comparatively, how much more durable they are.

I've got some more research to do on my AATV purchase as I saw some pretty good used vehicles for sale here and on another site or two. I have a full machine shop and fabrication facilities where I work, so now I'm wrestling with purchasing a brand new machine and use it until something wears out or breaks then doing the upgrades or just buying a used Max or Argo that needs a total rebuild and upgrading the components then. I see merit in either approach. The new machine gets me going RIGHT NOW and has some warranty. The used approach is much less expensive, but requires some time and effort to get going. We'll see how this turns out.

Anyway, not to bore you, but I'm sure I'll have some questions later. Thanks for taking the time to read. BBJ

            • Hi Reiddo1 and BigMerv, welcome to the site, it is good to have you here. BigMerv, with your knowledge and access to equipment I wouldnt think twice about purchasing a used machine. Nothing terribly old but something 8 years old or newer with 100 hours or so on the machine, where you could let someone else take the initial depreciation. You would save a lot of money and probably still end up with a good machine. If something were to happen you could then fix it.

              Good luck with your decision.

              • Hi, I bought a very complete, but non running and needing restored, 4 wheel Gotcha atv. So, in my search of any info on it, lead me to you guys. Hope I can pick up some info here and maybe even share some. This is my first atv like this, but I'm not new to the world of mechanics. I have been building street rods for almost 30 years. I have a full customising shop at my disposal (even a cnc plasma) but this Gotcha looks to be really complete, so for the most part it will be disassemble, clean, paint, assemble. I'm 43, live in the tristate area in AZ. Thanks for letting me on your forum.

Thanks Mike. Being that we don't restore cars, I'm thinking I will probably not restore this,,,, more of a mild custom. I picked it up pretty cheap at an estate auction, I got it for $65.

I will try to get some pics posted. We are scrambling to get a car done and sold (have to pay bills before toys), but once the car is done, lots more free time.

                        • Just bought a Wedge 295

Hello all! I have been a member on the site for a little while, but I just bought a Wedge 295 yesterday. I had a Scrambler when I was a kid, and I've been wanting to get back into 6-wheeling for a while now.

The guy is coming with the thing today, and it sounds like it will need a bit of work, but not too much. The clutch is shot, and it hasn't run in 2 years because of the clutch issue.

I was hoping someone out there knows of some sources for Wedge parts. I have browsed a few threads about the Wedge, but if there are some good threads I should check out, let me know!

Thanks guys. I hope to be up and wheeling in short order.
