    • Hey guys, my name is John and I am new to this site. I own four four wheelers and I just finished completely rebuilding at ez go workhorse. Now I am on to my next project and I have been scoping out a 1970 ski tow scrambler. The unit is in very good shape but does not have a motor. I have a brand new 8 hp. tecumseh that I will put in it for now. My biggest concern is that the steering mechanism appears to be "clutch pack" that I am not sure I would be able to ever find (as I would need two). This site has helped me alot in that I just read a post about a guy with an amphicat which seems to have the same type of brake mechanism. All in all I really think I will move on this unit as it has been under roof and all of the chains, jackshafts, sprockets etc, are in great shape with no rust. Any advice would be appreciated.

      • I just posted on the other amphicat thread but could it be a stalker. ski tow made them. There should be a brochure soon on the site with them or if you want pm your email address and I can send them to you. The amphicat system is different setup then the stalker. I think there is a 6x6 with a similar set up but cant remember for sure. Maybe someone else can chime in on that.

        • You are correct, it is a Stalker, sorry I did not have the paperwork in front of me as it is at my office. As I stated earlier, I am most likely going to pick this unit up as I was a former shop teacher and I am very handy so I am really not afraid of any part of this project except if these brake packs are bad but I have no way of telling at this point. I would gladly pm you but I don't know how! Sorry, John

            • I think that is what Trebmaster has. Maybe if the clutches cant be replaced we could pumpkin chuck it......OK, I just want to chuck something.

              • New Member 12/10.
                Bought a old 6-whlr AATV, says Arkat-SS292 on side. Found this nice site on net. I couldnt find anything on net anywhere about a ARKAT. Looked at all pictures, kinda looks like a Amphicat Seat/frame, but different top/front. Has a JLO 2F440-2, and T-20. Pulled axles, frame out, cleaned tub, going to blast/paint frame, trans, etc. Needs Bearings, rims, chains, tires too!$$?? Found a wireless remote camo-winch at Harbor Freight (3000lb) cheap for $69. Have 4 whlr and currently restoring a couple Chrysler SnoRunners at same time. Lots of work to go!!

                • Hi Lee, welcome to the site. Do you have any pictures of your Arkay that you could upload to the gallery? Someone may be able to tell you more about it if they see a picture of it. It sounds like you have plenty of projects going, like most members here. Now you just have to prioritize and get that six wheeler done first.

                    • Hi to all of the 6x6 world this the a newbie to this site.I,m from the great white north EH!! So this sort of 6x6 is the idea thing to get around with four season weather.

                          • Recently I ran into this site whilst in conversation with an accquantance. You see, he was talking about argos. When I told him I used to build Bush swampers, I picked this site as it had a conveinient pic.
                            The early 80's were way to much fun. One good thing about the low tech era meant more time doing fun stuff like building up 4X4 trucks etc.

                              • As I mentioned it was in the early 80's. The owners of the machine shop I worked at, bought the rites of a 16 wheel ATV from a trapper in NorthBay Ontario. Said trapper made the machine because at the time there was nothing out there to suit his trapping requirements. We began producing the Bristol Bush Swamper just a few kilometers from Bristol Machine Works in Sudbury Ontario. We built 6 at a time for a few short years until the 4 wheeler ATV came along and put us out of business. At the time I was just a kid but was at least I was returned to the main machine shop prior to BBS production discontinuation and actually prior to the development of the Grizzly. The early model chain case was hand fabricated as were many other components. I remember later chain cases and axle hubs were cast aluminum and much easier to work with. If anyone needs parts etc. I suggest contacting Bristol Machine Works in Sudbury ontario. They should still have the CNC programs for many of the production parts ( I must have run off a million of them). They should have the machine tools etc to help out. It was 21 years since I left Bristol so I'm only using by best guess. I believe they have a web site.
