The top and bottom should be bolted together. The only thing holding the frame into the lower is the 6 axles and their bearings and flanges. Remove the axles and the frame will pull out. It's not as easy as it sounds though. Axle removal can be a pain.

Might be worth drivin up to meet Drew, he could probably hook you up with a lower needing much less repairs.sigpic
My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Where is drew? I am in southern west Virginia no one around here is into the 6x6 so there is really no parts floating around. I figure a used lower tub will cost me around a thousand just for the simple fact that i have to drive to pick it upDon't underestimate the power of will when it is at its best

Post up some pictures of the hole you are trying to patch, we may have some better advise. buying a sheet of HDPE may make for a tough patch job due to the complex bends and ribs that are molded into the original tub.
I have a lower in excellent condition, but I'm as far away from you as the factory in Buffalo, and I bet they have a good quality second (minor imperfections).
