Hi new member here. I'm in Alaska and getting my max iv serial # 11582 april 1995 fixed up and repowered with a new briggs vanguard 23hp engine. I picked this max iv up last year in Wasilla, Alaska and have been working on it little by little. Almost done for now and I will post some pics soon.

I got a break from it all and decided to call of RI again today just to make sure, and you were spot on... Mel's Max II is a 2000, I am sure my bad hearing had something to do with the misleading information. Thank you for helping me get that cleared up.

R.I. is the best place to check, but that's why I was scratching my head about Mel's Max II year, because mine is around 30 higher than that number & it is a 2000. The guy we bought it from had the Certificate of Origin from R.I. Maybe mine had special needs.

Many people don't know the actual year thier machine was made, just what the previous owner told them.
Often the 20+ year old machines have changed hands several times, and each time has the possibility of the owners memory failing.

Qe had no idea what year this was when we bought it. This is what I was told by RI today when I called! Maybe it sat on the showroom floor awhile before it was sold and the title had 87 put on it??? Don't have the title or bill of sale but maybe that's the case.

I called R.I. and was told it was an 87 according to the vin so it must be an 87, but I'm still confused to why my vin is lower yet a proven 85 is lower.

I couldn't help but to call RI today and check things out on the 1987 and 1985 Max II's in question. I had to call twice because I was dumb founded after I was told that Max II Serial# 7462 is indeed a 1985. So I called back and Serial# 7127 is in fact a 1983 by RI records. Hope this clears things up.

Thanks for checking that again. I was sorta leery about the guy I talked to as he was very confused about what part I was looking for so I wouldn't doubt he messed up the years.
