First one that i have ever seen with someone driving! Nice job and great looking machine!Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

As soon as I mention my frustration waiting for the seat cover on another thread, I get the call saying it's done. It came out pretty nice, but not special enough to justify the 4 month wait.

I know what you mean last time i took something to an upholstery shop i ended up doing it myself. And all it was i had a 20ft tarp i wanted a 24 inch hole in the center and stitched up. I see you got your seat cushion. Man you done an outstanding job on the restoration.Last edited by MarshallEpp; 05-02-2010, 01:40 PM.

Hey Joe. I wish I could say that it runs as good as it looks, but no spark right now.As soon as I can get that old JLO purring again (well maybe purring is too optimistic for a 2 stroke), I'll be glad to get some more video up. I may be down to needing to pull the flywheel, but I don't have one of those nifty pullers. Anyone out there with a JLO flywheel puller for sale?... rent?... trade?... borrow?... anything?

I think JP's probably right: change the points & condenser and it's gonna fly. I've never had a flywheel come off one of these as hard as John's (6x6) had. Chances are it'll come off with a harmonic balancer puller. Good luck.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Thanks for the tips, guys.I was heading towards changing all those ignition components, but was dreading trying to remove the flywheel without the proper puller. I will gingerly attempt with a regular HB puller. The last time I had the cover off, I didn't notice any tapped holes in the flywheel (wasn't looking), but I guess they are there.
Who is a good source for those igniton parts? I see that mfgsupply.com has some JLO parts listed. They aren't real specific about the engine applications for those parts. I've bought other stuff from them and have been generally satisfied with the products and service.sigpic

Bingo!... the flywheel came off with a regular HB puller. I was getting nervous when I really started to get some tension on those 3 wimpy 6mm studs, but eventually it popped. There's always that tense moment after it pops when you're not sure if it just came loose or something broke. It was safe to exhale this time and no expletives required. The points have a pretty good size crater on the contact, so that may have been the problem. Is that condenser wire soldered on?

Cool. It's always great when a plan comes together. The condenser wires a soldered on and it just pushes into the stator plate as far as mounting goes. I've had good luck with Manufacturer's Supply, but if you can find the OEM Bosch points they last a lot longer. I've had very good luck with my old Bosch parts books until I gave bad numbers to another member just recently (sorry, Buggyman). I've never had a problem before that. The Bosch numbers for the contact set is 1-217-013-1-015 and the condenser is 1-237-330-035. If you can't find Bosch, MS has the cross reference on their site.
Good luck!Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.
