hi kghills
The vendetta appears to be more comfortable than a rawhide correct ?
The flotation improved since they have a greater air capacity ?
Traction at lower speed has improved
A few suggestions as to why,
a greater lug count ??
the tire/lugs are wider giving a greater bite ??
The performance of the vendetta in sticky thick mud is still limited as the tread pattern still fills up but its threshold is still far greater than the rawhide [once again due to its lug count and width ]. By threshold I am referring to the point at which nil traction occurs ..Please explain your experiences.
cheers

I understand what your saying Mark. Sadly, for what you are after the old Hustler is not that kind of machine and with the gearing and maximum RPM of the old flat head it is stuck at lawnmower speed at best as is its design plus I don't think the stock axles take much to bend. The Vendettas on it will get a variation of Adair tracks with urethane inserts sort of a variation from what I saw you did with putting a rubber cover over your grousers. Also keep in mind your style of driving is one segment of the market, Many who purchase the AATVs are only after the slower speeds and many are also tracked so the deep mud performance of the tires is of little concern and they are looking at the other attributes the Vendettas offer when the tracks are removed.Originally posted by MAX IV Mark View PostAfter watching that video Keith, we need to find a way to get you to spin your tires as fast as you try to spin facts. I personally don't like to drive my MAX slower than I mow the lawn. When I see a patch of mud I don't think I want to become friends with it and hang out, I think "I wonder how fast I need to go to hydroplane across it without bending an axle when I hit the other side?"
There is a very sunny side to this all however. Soon every new Max II, Max IV, Buffallo and Mudd-OX will sport nothing but Vendettas. I am told Vendetta sales are also better than originally expected. Matt has been ordering so many Vendettas from Hoosier that Hoosier has decided to try and inventory them rather than wait for Matt's orders. Matt also attends a number of events throughout the year and tends to bring a number of machines with Vendettas. The result will be all sorts of Vendettas on all sorts of machines with all sorts of drivers using all sorts of driving techniques. Matt also allows people to test drive his machines at the events from what I have seen. I would encourage you to ask him to allow you to try and bend an axle at Ashtabula this year. I think the longer video from Haspin has the Mudd-OX spinning the tires like your after. I can see if I can "spin" up a short video highlighting it for you.
Keith.

How much do the Vendettas cost? I'm still torn between those and the Vampires. Cost may be the deciding factor. I don't mind paying more for anything that's made here if it's not too ridiculous.

aaalright...come on nowOriginally posted by 2014SE View PostI don't see anything different from the performance from the stock Argo AT189. Not saying the Argo tire is better just I don't think these Vendettas are anything special. The winch line proves that.
the the tire goes up +1 inch in diameter AND +2 or +4 inches in width. This kind of improvement is right in line with jumping UP from an argo at189 24x10x8 to a 25x12x9. Jumping up again gets you to the Vendetta. Not to mention the improved tire manufacturer and quality (I can only presume anyway). I like the argo tires as I have some, but if the Vendetta's would fit on my particular machine (old mudd-ox tub) and still clear tracks....I'd prefer to have those.
No tire is going to hold a candle to tracks (I know- giant newsflash), so it makes sense...to me anyway...to embrace a tire that works so well and is also very well suited for track use.
Not jumping on anyone's bandwagon. I just see it as very practical solution and a great option to have for our machines. Aggressive mud tires are cool, but not so much when they're not compatible w/track crossers.

Sorry about that Mike, you are absolutely correct. That's what happens I guess when I try to steal clips from others videos. Thanks for taking the time to point that out and watch the video.Originally posted by hydromike View PostAt 1:20 in the video, is it my absolute imagination, or is that "low RPM Max IV on Vendettas" getting pulled out of that little mudhole? That is a great video Dan and Haspin is an incredibly diverse and rugged off road park. I was glad to see Matt brought so many machines with Vendettas. I also agree with your assessment of tire size, ground clearance and and lower psi which results in sidewall flex and a flattening out of the tread. I am going to question your comment about aggressive driving and Drew's statement regarding the Vendetta seeming to clean out and work a little better. I am not calling these statements wrong but ask you to watch a short video that may make you rethink what you know about how a tire performs off road. I now owning a set of Vendettas and an old Hustler 980 with low gearing has made me reevaluate my understanding of off road tires especially for an amphib. You need to realize that most deep lug mud tires are designed to work with higher tire speeds. Yes a big lug can grab and pull at lower speeds too but most are really designed to spin and throw the mud from the lug thus allowing the tire to "dig". Now aggressive driving and tire speed with deep lug tires is where it's at and I included almost a textbook example of a truck with big lug tires in the video. You will notice the forward motion and tire speed and amount of mud thrown. This is why typically to make a big lug tire work you need lots of horsepower. It also shows how quickly the motion can go from forward to downward. There are also bar type tires like old WWII military tires, AquaTorque and Skid Steer tires. These tires are designed for slow speeds but offer little flotation and will typically dig down like a big lug truck/ATV tire when they can no longer pull the vehicle forward. In sticky mud the Vendetta is a different animal. It uses a proven tread pattern, flotation and an advanced sidewall design to allow the tire to hold mud, flatten out and use the mud as a traction aid. I know this sound weird but take a look at the video and try to watch the different tire speeds. This is why I feel the Vendettas are a better tire than a tire with a big lug. I actually feel it offers better performance in mud than a big lug tire. Also given the fact it swims, works well in sand, rides nice and can take tracks what more could you ask for? As a disclaimer I could not remember whose machines had what tires so I just called them all Rawhides the video is not intended to dismiss other tires or machines capabilities but meant to show the dramatic difference in how the Vendetta works compared to how even I thought an off road tire should.
Hopefully this will make my assessment of the tires clearer as I obviously was not explaining them well enough in my previous attempts driving some to post irrelevant comments that had nothing to do with the topic of this thread. Vendettas, made in the USA and moving our country and hobby forward.
Keith.

I was surprised to see how each machine tire and track combination excelled in one area or another. Over all I saw that the Vendetta tire was well suited to some of the more extreme conditions of Haspin. This was a good testing ground and a good video to compare notes.
The Mudd Ox with Vendetta tires seemed to ride exceeding well and took the more extreme areas of up and down hill terrain with what seemed like comparative ease. As always the hydraulics seemed to play a major role in it's ability to traverse extreme terrain.
I think that this just another way of saying to all "let's enjoy our machine and enjoy the capabilities of each and every combination".
After watching this video carefully these are my thoughts on the mater of tires and machines. I have always liked the Argo Frontier because of the high and low range, the smooth bottom that does not hang up on limbs, roots and mud, the ground clearance which is better then any other 6x6. I also love the new admiral transmission which has certain short comings but over all is better under most trail conditions and being able to drop into low range has tremendous advantages.
Over all I think that a 6x6 Argo HD with a set of 16 inch Vendettas would be the machine to beat under most conditions. Some one will always beat you some where under some type of trail condition.
Most of the time it is just good aggressive driving and experience that makes the difference.
My thought on the Frontier with 16" tires. Eleven to twelve inches of ground clearance, less PSI, smooth bottom, low range, traction of the Admiral transmission with excellent trail performance. I have always said that ground clearance is king and other members have always said PSI, PSI, PSI!
So that's my vote for 6x6 machine and tire combination. Other machines may beat me out in some areas but that is okay, this sport is all about having fun and seeing which machine and tire combination wins in this area. The bottom line is it is all about fun and friendly competition.
As for me I have waited for a tire that swims well, rides well, and preforms well under most condions and the Vendetta seems to be what I have waited for.Last edited by mightymaxIV; 02-16-2014, 11:36 AM.
