• Nice RDR.

I didn't even need mudflaps till the 1.5 inch spacers and ASX tires. The side lugs and aggressive tread throw water and debris up the sides and into the rear.

Got my credit card bill from the tire purchase and spacers this week. Still havent been billed from EC Dist for engine mod stuff. I sure am stimulating the economy!

I think I am done for awhile...

• ASX Tire swimming

Here is the video I promised of the ASX tires swimming in my pond. I am pretty happy with the control and water speed. My pond is a tuff place to swim because of the c shape and low trees hitting the roll bar.

• They move pretty well there Dan. I hope i don't have to ride beside you. those tires throw a lot of water to the side. Afraid you would swamp me.
Are the ASX on the front 2 positions?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

• That looks like you have a lot more control than you had at Busco with the combo of different tires.

All ASX looks like the way to go if you can fit them. <g>

• mightymaxIV ,

It looks like those mud flaps that you installed on your Max IV, work pretty well in keeping water from spashing into the tub.

ASX on all six positions right Forward backward forward. ><> Front tires throw the most water. I am happy with the speed and the combination of control and overall ability.

• "Dan The Tire Man" Great job finding some alternate tires that swim. For all those folks that experimented with tires and posted on this site you save the rest of us a lot of money figuring this out. Thanks.

• i have those tires on just the front of my max and they get both sides of my front seat wet. i only have a 3/4 spacer, i can only imagine what it is like with those big spacers mightymax has.

• Man have I learned a lot

Thanks to Richard Clark, Rutledge, JP Swift. After talking to Richard Clark, and Rut about water leaks I found out some very interesting things. Rutledge suggested I get I needle fitting for the bearings and Richard Clark talked with me about insuring the flanges were sealed. I have been listening very carefully about all the different sealants members use on there machines and finally decided I would try the 3M rope caulk. This stuff is soft and can be placed on the machine and formed however you need it to go. Goes on soft and stays soft so when you need to take it off in the future it comes OFF!!!! Anyway took off my flanges got the needle fitting and put it in my bearings with some good marine green grease. (GOOD STUFF) There are two small pin holes on every bearing. When I put the needle fitting in and started to pump awful black yeack came out the other side. I pumped until I saw green and then entered the other hole and pumped black grease out the other way. I must have geased my bearings twenty times in the last two years and I doubt that very little grease got into those bearings. Bottom line is if you want to grease them properly take off your flanges and use and needle fitting. Next I used the rope caulk everywhere I thought there might be a leak and then put the whole thing back together. I rolled the max a few feet foward and to my surprise it took almost a third less effort to push the machine. I also installed mud flaps using Rutledges great design as a guide. ( THEY WORK EXCELLENT!!!!!!) finally I took the machine into my pond without the back seat and the floor pans looking for leaks. Back and forth several times. One tiny pin drip from the middle left axle. The mud flaps kept water out of the tub. Finally I played a lot with the ASX tire in the pond. They swim very well just above idle and can be conrolled with the sticks or by leaning. I could swim at what I consider a good speed without throwing water and maintain excellent control. As for traction, far better than anything I have seen. Pulled out of my pond over and over again slow or fast without a problem. They don't dig down like vampires but stay on top of the mud. Traction is very, very close to a track in the mud. I beleive the swim speed is close to a max with 25 inch rawhide III's-WOW. I am impressed in every way. Also these tires turn I have spun my machine around on the concrete several times. If I tryed this with my 26" Goodyears I would have left the axles on the ground.

• Glad to help out, Dan. And thank you for all of the hours you spent testing these things out for us all. I love that 3M strip/rope caulk and I'll never use anything else on any of my machines. I just finished sealing up my Attex racer with it, and it works like a dream. Also, since it stays flexible and never hardens, changing a bearing or axle doesn't require you to scrape it off like some other stuff with a putty knife. You're also right on the ball with the marine grease idea. That stuff works wonders for our machines.
I'm going to take your advice and change around the position of the ASX tires on my Hustler and see if it is any faster. Right now with all of them forward my Hustler 980 is just as fast, if not faster in the water than my Max II with Rawhide III's on it. You and I will have to get our rigs in the water the next time we're at a ride and see if the different shaped hulls of the Max IV and Hustler 980 BIGFOOT have an impact on the water speed. I was playing in the mud the other day where it gets really sticky......like pudding. Even my energetic Brittany Spaniel dog has to really work to get through and up the other side of this area when he goes for a walk with me. We had a good bit of rain on top of it, which made conditions much worse. When I had my Hustler there with the stock 26" Goodyears it got absolutely buried over the axles. I couldn't get my tractor down that far so I had to walk back and get my Max II with a good tow strap. It took 7 or 8 hard yanks to break it free. Needless to say, when you're stuck that bad out that far in the woods, it can make you a bit apprehensive. I took the Hustler through that dreaded spot and crawled through it and walked it diagonally up the other side! These tires are simply amazing, and hands down, the best all around tire for an AATV. You're right, Dan, it's feels like you have tracks on your machine. I'll have to take you guys for a ride, it's just something that you have to experience first hand to believe. Since getting a few hours on my Hustler and my new Briggs engine, the next mod will be building an adjustable motor mount like micmac did on his racer so I can adjust it for proper belt tension. Keep up the great work, Dan. Also, with this nice weather that finally reached us here in Western NY, it'll be time to get some video footage of the Hustler hitting all of the mud holes that the 4 wheeler and lifted truck crowd say are, "impassible."

• Opps! I got a hole in the sidewall of one of my ASX tires. The inside beed came loose and filled with mud and water. I only noticed at about 30 MPH headed home that something was a miss.

Taking it to the tire shop today.

I have been through some real bad stuff and haven't been stuck yet. These tires are awsome! I have had to get out the rubber bands and put them on the throttle so that I can swing from the rollcage to get er going through the really bad stuff.

The upgraded Briggs is great and 50 pounds less than a 31 or 35 Vanguard.

Happy to see you have your machine together and that it is doing so well for you. 30 mph? Wheewww my Max won't ever appoarch those kind of speeds. Sounds like you have thwe best of all worlds, light weight, good horsepower, gearing (red spring) top end, and the ultimate traction. Hard combination to beat!

• Vampire ASX tire update:

These things are still awsome! I can't believe the mudding ability. Still shallow water speed is slow and deep water speed is ok at 1.5mph.

I would recommend these tires for a great soft ride and mud/sand abillity. I usually run between 3 and 3.5psi. Skid steering is good and wide stance adds to stability.

I still have 6 Goodyear Super Terra Grips and wouldn't go back. Probably should sell them. These tires are fast in the water and back breakers on the bumps. Follow me in the mud with these tires and I will bring a tow rope for you.

I know that there were some others out there testing the ASX tires on a (Hustler). What did you guys discover?
