Just bought a used 2018 Avenger 8X8

Didn't someone say, "make sure you clean the gears"? well I didn't look at the front one close enough, there was a bunch of stuff on it, so I pulled the chain back off and cleaned it and it went on a lot easier, though the front right chain is tighter than the front left chain....took it out for a drive and rechecked it and the right is still tighter....maybe 1/8th inch play, the left has a lot less than it had but is at about 1/4-1/2 inch play.

what do you use to clean out the oil from the oil filter, when you change it? When I changed the oil I had a heck of a time getting the oil filter off, then all the oil from the filter when down?? and is coming out on the left side runner or what ever it is called that the chains run in.

Since the left side fenders are closer to the track, maybe 1/8 - 1/4 inch clearance, I pried the fender up and put a 2x4 between the track and the fender to raise it up some, been thinking about adding some heat and seeing if I can't get a piece of 1x4 on top of that, then let it cool down and take them out, anyone dealt with this before? or is there another way to deal with this?

I use an oil filter spanner that is a universal type, it is x shaped and as you apply pressure the x draws tightly and grips the filter then you just spin it off. Prior to that I use a topside oil pump that uses a plastic tube that goes down the dipstick then you pump it out, then remove the oil filter, then I drop the drain bolt from the oil pan, you contend with only a little bit of oil in the tub this way.

Regarding the master links for new chain. I place the master link in from the outside portion of the tub, and place the spring retainer on the inside portion of the chain (nearest to the transmission).

I picked up, what looks like a socket that goes on the end of the filter and will try that next time. I do have the tool you mentioned, I'll have to take it home so I have it, I don't use it at work anymore anyway, it could come in handy for this.

Yesterday I applied heat to the inside of the fender and positioned a 2x4 to push out on it, so it wouldn't be rounded, then I removed the heat and let it cool down, when cool, I remove it and the 2x4 from under the fender and now I have about 3/4 inch clearance. I took it for a drive and when I came back I checked it again and it stayed the same, I'll have to see if the clearance lessens over time.

over the weekend, I try'd to change the oil in the transmission (HDI), when I pulled the plug nothing came out, so I must have a small leak, I installed a syphon hose and only got a little out, thinking it was empty, I added a qt of oil and it was way over full, I pulled the plug again and let a bunch of black fluid drain out, but it was pretty cold and the fluid was moving real slow. I waited till it was down on the site glass and put the plug in, but now it is over the site glass, I'll have to try it again this week, it should be up in the 50's. Question: where do you normally drain the transmission fluid from? the drain plug hole or do you put the hose in from the top fill hole?

Looking at chains: I learned, on this board, to use TSUBAKI chains for the 50-2 chains, does that go for the 60-1 chains as well? I was able to find "new/old stock" 50-2 chains on ebay at a pretty good price (as long as your not in a hurry) and am hoping to do the same for the rear chains on my 2018 Argo.

I think any quality chain will work, I have used Tsubaki, Diamond brand, Browning, etc. over the years, and have even bought some of the cheap stuff occasionally as back-up chain. The better the quality the less likely you are to have problems. There is a lot of new old stock, quality chain on Ebay. I buy it even if I don't need it short term. It's there when I need it.

Started looking for chain again, I see one of the rear single link chains is resting on a crossmember so I figure I better get it replaced. Not having much luck finding quality chain, lots of cheap stuff on ebay.

Here is one that looks like it is made in the US: Tritan Cottered Single Strand Roller Chain 3/4" Pitch ANSI 60 10ft 60-1C 10FT, anyone ever heard of them?
