  • Hello : My Name is TJ. I am 51 years old and have a small fab/custome shop in lower PA. I am running racing go karts and old pro street cars as a hobby.
I use to be a MAX dealer in lower PA for some time and also redid and parted old AATV's. I have had Amphicats,Scramblers,Argos, Attex's, and a Terra Tiger with a 440 in it ! Won a couple barrell races with that one !
My love was a SPD Wedge ! I realy want to find another so keep me in mind !!
I use to be hooked up with some people who raced AATV's in DE & NJ on the beach! Thats where my Wedge came from. I have a MAJOR collection of AATV toys also ! I LOVE THESE THINGS !!!!
If I can ever be of help just hit me up . I still have alot of manuels and info on these at the shop and plan on getting back into them.
Hope to meet some good people again as I remember the fun times !
    Tj

        • Hi I'm Tony, I've visited here a few times,, have always had a luv for these machines,, don't own one yet, but I'm ready to change that,, found a couple of SPD wedges, go my heart set on owning one,, first thing, would be suspension, y'all say whipper has his designs available? Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

I'm 45, work for a riverboat company, ground crew running heavy equipment, I've visited this site a few times in the past. Since I was a kid I've wanted one of these, specifically a SPD wedge, I've found some online, think I'll take the worst one, in my spare time I build street rods and rat rods, so the bodywork won't pose a problem. Recently I was told whipper has his springer kits available, so I know I'll go this route, as for engine and trans, was thinking diesel, modified Vtwin, maybe even a 2 stage rotary, also thinking of going fully hydraulic. So that's why I joined, any help and advice will be greatly appreciated. Plus hope to make somemore friends along the way :-) thanx (Tony)

              • Hey Tony! I have one of Whipper's kits on my Attex. It's great.

Last I heard, he was not going to engineer any kits for machines other than the Attex, Max II and Max IV. There was also a guy in Canada who came up with something for an Argo but we have not heard a peep from him in a long time. You can search "Argo Springer" to find out about that.

                Good luck,

                George

                • Hey thanks for the info,, I'll give it a shot,, when I get my machine, I may be looking to find a builder, reason being, this new position at my work, doesn't leave me hardly anytime for myself, meaning I'm at work more that home, plus I think the hotel won't allow me to build it in the room (lol). Can y'all help me out? Please and thank you.

                  Thank you Mike and George

Hope this ain't no crazy ?, but have you ever built one from the ground up?

                    Well, sort of.......
You will find out that it is FAR cheaper to buy one and modify it to your liking. Until you have owned one, gotten some time behind the sticks, and driven a few others....how do you know what features are important to you?

                    • Tony,I dont think I would put a springer kit on a machine without a full frame.Wedge's used super thick fiberglass, but no full frame.I had a wedge as my first 6x6,it was awsome used to run it for a hour and work on it for two hours. It got me started in 6x6's but I soon found there are much better models out there.Adjusting chains was a hassle, broken hubs, adjusting the cables to keep it turning and braking is also time consuming and the 90 deg.gearbox wears pretty fast and will skip teeth. The best part of a Wedge is the looks. If your dead set on one go for it,but keep your expectations fairly low.Sorry for the negatives, but thats just how it is.

                      • Haven't drove one, but can't be to different from the kamatsu track truck I drive at work, except not as big? Right?

No worries Eddie, mainly I liked the wedge for it's looks, I tend to lean more to the odd looking, or space/future vehicle, but your advice is dooly noted,, um,, ? Could a frame be installed?

                        • I would say a frame of some sorts could possibly be added, Although I dont remember if there is a way to separate the upper and lower body halves to be able to get a frame down in it.I also remember it is a heavyweight just as it sits, without the added framework. If they are worth the money buy them,it will get you started, then there will never be an end!!!!

                            • Attex is out of busness but most drive parts can still be purchesed at supply houses, if you have spacific parts in mind we will be able to pinpoint this for you. as far as attex parts you can post in the wanted section on the site and someone may have the parts you are looking for. keep us up on your rebuild and welcome to the site
