    • hello all. I'm from central Pa. I have recently had a ATTEX ST/400/R given to me.From what i can tell it has no reverse just forward and stop. Don't know what year it is. the model # is 300 The serial # is 2101 does any one know what year this might be. in the process of getting it running now the unit is complete nothing is missing or broke has a ccw engine in it.

      • dlsm74,
welcome to the site. here is a link with more info on your machine Model ST/400/R
not sure what years it was made. looks like reverse was an option on that one . the R in st400/R is for race, so most of them didn't have reverse. good luck getting it up and running. keep us posted on your progress. post up in the Attex forums with any questions or issues you come up with and someone on here will be able to point you in the right direction

The model # 300 or st300 is another model then a st400r. What transmissionis in it, T20 or ATV MFG Co, aka baker hill. If it is a non reverse baker hill then it would be basically a straight shaft with planatary disks on each side. If it has a bakerhill then it is probably '69-70. Also if the exhaust is on the rear left it is a 69-70. The newer ones had exhaust on the right side near the middle.

            • My 225/h had a 300 tag on it. Not sure if the company did that or if someone did that before I got it. I think I have heard that attex did some weird stuff like that so you could have the st400r if you have the ccw motor.

              • Hi everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and bought a 1997 Argo Response. I was having trouble deciding between an amphib or a Polaris side-by-side and finally decided that if I didn't try the amphib, I would never know what they are like. The Argo has the 18hp B&S and I currently have the tracks on for the snow (East Central Minnesota).

The jury is still out, but I do like the Argo. I don't like how loud it is, am still getting used to the chains slapping, and miss the suspension of typical ATV. Also, I read a lot of comments about the lack of dependability and worry about getting too far from home. But it is nice to be in the warm cab heading across the ice to the "right" spot to drill holes.

Anyway, this is a wonderful web site. Without it, I would have probably went with a side-by-side. Thanks go out to all the posters!

                    • Welcome aboard Joker

Glad to have you with us

You will get adjusted to the chains and the other noises. I notice you have a top in your picture. Nice. Post up some pictures of your machine.

As far as the unreliable part if you keep up the maintenance on your machine it will serve you well. Traveling alone in the deep abyss by ones self is always something to be leery about no matter what you ride or drive. Traveling in packs help to increase your confidence and help is there if you do have trouble.

Hope to see you on the site and enjoy your machine.

                      • Thanks guys. I hope to be able to handle the maintenance part.

Here are a couple more pics. One that shows the top a little better and one that shows the interior (not much dash to mount stuff to, is there?)

I added a 2-outlet power plug, a large flood light on a mag-mount that I stick on the winch mount and can use in my truck when loading the Argo on the trailer, a small ceramic heater that I hope will keep the frost off the inside of the window on colder rides, a 10" strip of LED tied to the left brake lever for interior light, and a Lowrance H2Oc GPS.

Now I just want to spend some time driving it.

                          • Hellooooooooo Wheelers

Hi all. Mike here from near Utica, NY. First post. I've stumbled across this site
in my quest for a transmission for a project I want to build this summer. I'm a rail buff and wish to repower an old Fairmont Speeder (track inspection car)
that I hope to purchase soon. They came with a two cycle, single cylinder
putt putt type engine that was reversable with a timing change (much like modern sleds). It was belt driven (4" wide flat vareity) over a pulley tensioner
to a pulley on the rear axle. Most of the original drive is shot, the engine is half missing and I want to upgrade to a modern(or so) type of power. I have a single cylinder Kohler (16 hp) that got from an old greens mower. I'll drive it through a Comet 94c clutch to some kind of simple (i hope) f/n/r tranny.
Findng just what I need is proving a challenge though and as I found this site
it looks like I have a few choices in the ATV world. I don't need a skid steer trans altough it May work anyway but I'm not sure a t-20 will fit into the space I have to work with. First question is how wide is a t-20 from shaft end to shaft end?. The Vesley trans would work I think, are they any good?
How hard are they to get parts for? I've heard Apex trannys are junk but what do you all think? Baker Hill? This site is pretty good as I've been lurking
for a few days now and some of you are pretty well versed on these cool
machines. The only thing about them I know is the old TV show Banana Splits
had those four goofs rammin around in them and they look like a blast. Anyway thanks and any help I could get would be greatly appreciated. ML.

Maybe you can find a fnr set up off of a sled? How much do these old Fairmont Speeder weigh? Guessing they may be heavy? You said rail inspection car, curious, does that mean they run on rail tracks or wheeled also?

Hello all. I am proud owner of 1970's Scrambler which I am learning about. It had motor re-built and sat for 3 years before I got it. Not in to bad shape and even got motor to crank over and sounded good for short time. (need to clean carbs I bet).
I will be asking questions from time to time but right now just reading all post here on this great site to learn more. If you want to check out my photos they are at
