Hello to All

Just registered in, and thought I'd say Hi!

Been lurking for a month or so, till I was able to find a 6X6.

Being in the northend of Texas(Amarillo) has made my search for one a bit difficult. Most people around here ride horses instead.

Anyway, found a '78 Hustler (I think) in poor condition down in New Mexico, have done some cleaning, assessing, tinkering, etc.

Since I started with a fair tub, bad top, no motor, no deck lid, 5 flat rotted tires, (1 new one), and a good drive system and a functioning t20, I figured I had a lot to do.

Found a new friend who had a barn full of old John Deere snow mobiles, and managed to get a running Kohler 340-2FA ('78-79), with clutch. Cleaned the carb, motor runs strong, now need to mount it.

Anyway, that's where I got too last weekend. Then got a call from my new snowmobile friend, who says his neighbor has a six wheeler for sale, so I'll look at it this weekend. He doesn't know what type it is, but has described it as 6 new tires, on a trailer, single seat in front, steering wheel, and the owner has just had the engine rebuilt last year.

I figure it's a Scrambler, as I seem to remember from my high school days that only Coot and Scramblers had steering wheels, and I don't think Coots had six wheels.

Anyway, I'll take a look. I am leary about the steering/drive train though, as I have experience with skid steer, but not the system that the scrambler uses.

So, for now, if anyone has some leads on a Hustler top, rear deck lid, tires, exhaust, and control cables (throttle & E-brake), please let me know. I've been to the other site, and have ordered some stuff from Richard's, but he's the only source I know of so far.

So, I needed to say Hi. Invite anyone who happens to be on I-40 passing through Amarillo, TX, to give a shout out, a garage stocked with tools, and a fridge with beer, some chairs to rest your feet for a bit, while swapping stories, and friendship.

Welcome to the site and thanks for the invite but I'm a long way from Texas. If you get up this way I can offer the same....garage full of tools and a fridge full of cold beer. You said you are looking at a machine you believe to be a Scrambler. I have two of them as well as an Attex. Don't be intimidated by the steering / braking system. It is simple system and can often be repaired easily and inexpensively if all the parts are there. Plus there are enough guys on the site to help you through almost any issue with parts or suggestions. Keep me posted if you buy it and take care.

Hey fellow 6x6rs, finally great to get hooked up. I,m from the Ottawa Valley in Canada. I have owned an Argo for 6 years. I restored a 1984 6x6,sold it a few years ago & upgraded to a Bigfoot. This thing is crazy. Brand new 18 hp Vangaurd last year. I own 100 acres of land with plenty of swamp and other fun play areas. Lots of snow in winter,sometimes too much.... I had plastic tracks on it but sold them this spring. I was hoping to put rubber tracks on but not sure if they will work...Does anybody know for sure??? Anyway great site & Thanks Mike.

IM new to the 6x6 world just bought a nice amphicat that is all original never molested runs great but needs some adjustments it is hard to steer and you have to push hard to get it to go any help on the adjustments would be great it has what i think is a t20 trans and has a 2 stroke sachs engine

You are right. I just saw the word T20 and didn't even read the brand. How about starting a new thread in the "other AATV" forum and explain to everyone how to adjust the Amphicat Transmission. That way everyone benefits from your wealth of knowledge.

It is a Super Swamp Fox. I have a rolling tub now. In desperate need of aT20. Any help will keep the wife quiet.(for a bit) Btw where can I find out a year on this? I have a serial number from the plate on the dash.
