  • Hi guys, names Don but my friends call me corky. I recently acuired a 99 max 1V in bad disrepair. sat out in the weather for most of its life and had mice taking up residence in every part of the machine. I hail from milw. wisc. so you know this thing has been through the wringer. I fix one thing and another part breaks. most recently I fixed some missing rivits fromm the pan and whent to take it out and the front cylynder wasn't firing. switched the coils around and still nothing. after some probing I found the push rod was off the rocker and just layin there. is this normal and what would cause this to happen? also I installed a new alternator (9amp dual circut) and it charges till the lights are tuned on and it goes to the negative on the meter, whats with that? i enjoy reading the tech tips and watching the vidios. thaks for listening..............................

      • Welcome Corky

Hey Corky, Glad you found us. It's a cool site to browse and pick up useful information and tips. There is at least 3 other regulars on this site from Wisconsin, so you won't be lonely. I'm in Cedarburg. Always looking for another set of wheels to ride with.

        • Hi Don and welcome.
I suggest that you post your engine questions in the Engine Forum where you might get more answers. Be sure to identify what make and model engine you have in your Max.

          • Hi, my name's Mike, and I picked up a "side of the road special". It's a scrambler, year yet to be determined. Bought it without a motor, and I have a twin cyl. snowmobile motor for it. Hydraulics are in working order, but it needs some rims and tires - which I think I already found here; a skidplate, and some paint. My paintball team has been hounding me to get us a tank, and this will be perfect, since the field we frequent has a large pond in the middle. Eventually I'd like to add tracks to it, but it just needs to work first.

              • Welcome Beaker!
If that scrambler had wheels on it, that would almost count as an air bud!

Judging by the rear tank and the pull cord handle cutout, I believe that is an early model. Probably had a little 7 or 8hp. Does it have big springs on the axles? real early models had a slipper clutch on each axle. From what I understand it caused more problems and they change the design to a solid axle.

                • Catskill77 is on board

Hi, my name is George. I have a 1968 Attex w/ a 297 Rockwell Jlo engine. Have been working w/ a friend, got it running, it was in bad shape to start. Just discovered there was a bad bearing in the tranny, working on replacing that. Have always wanted a 6 x 6, any advice anyone can give about how they work, run, and how to have some fun in them in appreciated. It def needs some more TLC before i have that fun. I'm in Walton, NY (Delaware County), western edge of the Catskill Mtns.

                    • It does have the springs. Would I have to fabricate new axles, or can they be purchased somewhere still?

I wouldnt worry about it. I would get it running first, if it does give you problems you can drill a hole through the plate and the sprocket and put a bolt in there to lock it together, or if you pull them out you can weld them solid. I would wait and see if you have problems first.

                              • Hello everyone! I am new to the site and looking for more info on 6x6's. I am looking to purchase my first 6x6 and need some help. Here is what I am looking at 2002-2003 Argo 6x6 Bigfoot, camo body and seats, 18 hp b&s, 120 hours, brush guard, winch, trolling motor mount (no motor), hand rails, bilge pump, and skid plates. Overall it seems to be in good working order, tires have plenty of tread, it floats , has some mild idle issues and the battery will go dead if you leave the fuse in for the winch (groud issue???), and the camo is a little faded. All in all seems like a nice unit. So what do I need to look for? What is a reasonable price? The owner stated that he bought the unit new 7 years ago and it was about 11K with all of the extras and that he does not have a title to it. I am really excited to join the 6x6 family. Thanks for all of your help!
