Found this site when I had the idea of converting my prototype mini garrit skidsteer log skidder into a utv of some sort. would also want it able to pull snow and perhaps handle a box blade for driveway clearing. it has 2 torque hubs a pump/steering all in one unit 22 hp of diesel power plant and I dont use it much. seems like it would make a nice donar but from reading here hydraulics loose alot of gas mileage that would be useful for out on the trails. Am I crazy to build this way? Would a system using a cut down axle with brakes for steering be better? there are the questions im trying to learn about. ill keep reading the old forums and see how you guys have solved some of the issues im looking at.
Hi Mike, welcome to the site. Since your question is more technical in nature, try starting a new thread in the "Other AATVs" section of this site. More people will see it there than in this introduction thread.

    • Hi Mike, florida dan here-thanks for the invite to post. I am 71, with lots of 4x4 experience but NO 8x8. Just purchased a 1999 Argo conquest and put on new Argo
22x10x8 tires. So far it goes good (~3mph) in water and excel. on land. NOT so good getting out of the lake up the mushy bank. Thinking about going to dual tires on the front ONLY. That leaves hub # 3 (from the front) without a tire! I have read some of the posts re: dual tires so I'm warned. If anyone has tried this I would appreciate their input. Mike I compliment you on your website. florida dan

        • Hi Florida Dan, welcome to the site. You may want to browse the Argo and tire section of the site and see what kind of tires everyone else is running before adding dual tires up front. I bet if you had a more aggressive tread, you could pull yourself out easier. That would keep you from being much wider with the dual wheels

Hello Dberset, welcome to the site and congratulations on your Argo purchase.

                  • Hi Alan, welcome to the site. The Hustler is a great machine! Is the Kohler you're talking about the 16HP single cylinder 4 stroke K341 or the 2 cylinder 2 stroke 440? Pour some oil down the spark plug hole and let it sit for a while......3 in 1 oil will work. Leave it for a few days and let it work its way past the rings. Post some updates in the Hustler section of the site and we'd love to see some pics too. Good luck with it.

                      • Hi Jason, welcome to the site. Try searching the engine forum, there are a good many posts regarding less expensive alternatives to Briggs, Kohler, etc.

Try posting that information in the for sale section of the site and put a price, pictures and location.

                            • Howdy all,
I'm new to the group, and have a Ranger tracked ATV made by Arnold co.. (it's the same as in the brochure section of this site)
I use it as a workhorse around the airport here in Girdwood Alaska. I plow snow as well as moving fuel drums around, with an A frame I built.
I've just broken it! So now (the part I've always been dreading) I need to find parts! Not something easy, mind you, but a rear axle shaft is sheared. Probably more inside the wheel reduction as well. I'll start taking it apart in the next few days and see what else is needed.
Anyone have a source for parts?
Thanks for any help you can provide!
