Hi everyone Iam new here and to the 6x6 world just bought my first one. A 1973 Argo super sport which the dealer here never heard of . Well i have one In very good shape for the year. with both motors the ccw 400 and the ccw440 both which were just rebuilt. I have to put new brake pads on it. And would like to lower the stall speed of the clutch it has a salsbury 850 on it and some day change over to a newer brake set up. The thing is fast and fun Both my wife had fun in last weekend. But the brakes need TLC. Trying to fined a dealer service manual for it as soon as I get pics I will post them of My Fine for $1400. Oh bought it from the orginal ower with pics he took when he bought it home in 1973. Thanks you and Iam sure i will get some good infor off this site.

Hi Jumbo, I was actually just looking at the Argo Super Sport Brochure last night, I knew there were 2-stroke Argos but I hadn't realized there was a High Performance model. If you post up in the Argo section you will probably find some members with experience with that particular model. I've never personally owned or worked on one yet.
Hello Turbo. Great to see another international member. E-bay may be a good place to look. Not sure if Craigslist is widely used in France (It is popular here) but if so that's another place to keep an eye out. I know there are some quite unique machines out of Europe that I wish I could find over hereGood Luck
And welcome to the site guysAttex 295 Wild Wolf: sigpic My Runner

Building a monster from scratch would be fun! Please post pictures or start your own thread on the build. I would love to follow along on the build. Sure others would too.
Good luck!!

Another newby here in Davison, MI (very close to The Mounds); actually I've been lurking for a while but finally bought my first 6x6. It's a scrambler I bought off craigslist. Some of you probably saw it cause you had it linked in your classified. Well, overall, I'm pretty happy with my purchase. For $600 I got a Scrambler that was in pretty good shape with a 16HP Vanguard that started right up with the electric start, hydraulic steering seemed to work well when you turn the wheel, but the belt had been cut off, he told me because it was too tight and would take off when you started it and he didn't want his young son starting it up and getting hurt. Sounds reasonable enough. As anyone with a Scrambler knows, it's not just a matter of slipping a new belt on it and testing it out and I had driven 3.5 hours across the state to buy it so I paid the man, took it home, found an old snowmobile belt that would do the trick, installed it, started it up and took off!
First I tested the brakes... No Brakes. Then, even though the steering hydraulics seemed to be working and disengaging the drive clutches, it would barely, BARELY turn; even though the clutch opposite the diengaged clutch was still engaged, it would spin, and smoke. From a dead stop, if you turn the wheel and give it gas, the clutches spin and it goes nowhere.
Here's what I know:
1. There is still some clutch material on the clutch plate, but could probably use re-facing.
2. In order to install the larger Commet/Duster clutch (driven) he had to cut away the middle part of the frame that the stearing slaves mount to and it seems he also shortened the threaded rods and compression springs that hold the clutch plated together. I have already tried tightening the tension (compression) on the rods quite a bit, but I don't think there is enough spring force left (the springs are much shorter now) to proberly hold the clutch plates together.
3. The brake slaves don't work at all. I've tried pumping fluid into the salve with a grease gun in the zerk, still nothing. I'll probably have to take them off and check them out. maybe they're siezed?
This is a great site, keep up the good work. Any members in my area let me know!

Hey airstreamer,
Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. I had some problems on my scrambler when I had the springs adjusted to tight it would be harder to actually turn the wheel and was putting so much force on the mounts that loosen to remove the belt that they where flexing. I wonder if cutting the cross memeber out to put the larger driven on there made it even weaker so your not getting firm pressure on the disks. Try turning it and watching the frame there for flex. Just a thing I would check out. Also I found a good way to bleed the system is just gravity feed it. Fill the bottle up and then loosen the slave side. I had clear lines so I could watch the bubbles move. When you pumped the brake cylinders did they take any fluid or did it just not pump up?
Welcome to the site. Someday it would be cool to ride together at the mounds!

Hi everyone. My name is Justin and I've just purchased my first "toy" I'm not sure of the year but it's an action age scrambler. However it doesn't look the same as the ones I've seen online. For one it has no headlights. The front is just smoothed over. Also it doesn't have a steering wheel. Just two aluminum levers coming out of the floor that appear to enngage and disengage the clutches. Also it only has one peddle. (I'm not sure if its the gas or brake. I haven't torn into it yet.) The guy I bought it from gave my an owners manal and parts manual for a 69-70 scrambler 1000. But the serial number plate says its a model 1300. Any info anyone has would be greatly appreciated. And does anyone know where to get parts when I need them? Also all the tires are junk. Does anyone know the cheapest way to replace them? I know I can put tires and rims on it instead of the throwaway tire/hub combos. But I don't have much to spend. Hope to hear from you scrambler enthusiasts soon so I can get her running. Thanks, Justin
