            • Hi Mike and all other members -

Thanks for the opportunity to join.

We just bought a gently used 2002 Argo 6x6 Vanguard 2 about a week ago and have already had some fun with it around the yard. We live in east-central Wisconsin and don't see many of these amphibious ATVs around here. I got my first taste for this kind of vehicle when I was about 10 years old and went riding with my cousins in their Terra Tiger 6x6. I've had a desire to get one ever since then, and here we are (forty years later), I finally did it!

I have three boys (7, 9, 13) and we are having a blast with the Argo already. We look forward to the end of deer hunting season here in Wisconsin so that we can use it more freely in the surrounding area without having to worry about someone shooting in our direction.

We look forward to actively participating in this forum.

              Thanks,
              Dan

If you happen to hear of any Simcoe County area Argo group days please let me know. I am registeres as Pretzel on this site, or Registered Rider is the one I was assigned. prattj@simcoe.net is my email. I hope we 'run into each other' on some Argo adventure some day.

                      • Hello, my name is David Smith and i'm new to the 6x6 world, i've always had 4wheelers and have always been curious about AATVs, I came across a man who was getting a divorce and got a great deal on a 1995 MaxIV, it needs a few minor adjustments but great for me to see if its really what I've been wanting. I love it so far! I have a 3 acre pond and it's awsome to just keep on trucking! It's leaking around 3 of the axels, so every time I come out of the water I have to stop and drain the water out.
One problem it has (I think) is it doesn't pull hills very good, according to the You-Tube videos, my belt slips. I shimed the motor up with washers and the belt is snug. Any sugestions?

Welcome to the site and congrats on your new MaxIV!

For your belt problem Id make sure its not worn. Does it sit near the top of the driven pulley? It should be about flush. Other thing would be to check your spring in your driven pulley and make sure its ok. If its loose/damaged it wont ratio back down when you need the torque. When it starts slipping, try stopping completely and then going again. That will let the clutch system go back into the lower ratios. If its better on a stand still take off, then its probably a weak spring or something in the driven.

                          • Mike, I bought a used 1997 Argo Vanguard2 6X6. I'm a guy with some mechanical know how but more guts then brains. I thought a little TLC and some filters, a couple of wear pads and some grease and I'd be out and about. Not the case. This puppy is worn to a frazzle. I have both parts and service manuals. I have discovered bearing wear outs that leave me numb. The two shafts underneath the tranny flop like hung laundry. It would seam that the best option is to lift both engine and tranny out. My less than proficient review suggest that there are 3 large cross bolts that hold the engine/tranny in a cradle and they both could be lifted out on the craddle with a hoist together. Trying to remove parts etc. to get access the bearings seems futile. How far off in left field am I? Frankly I don't know where to start.

                            • Looking at purchasing an Argo shortly. I have always been a huge fan of them. The time has come to buy one. I have always had atvs and side by sides and am looking forward to the amphibious ability of these machines. I am wondering how to post a new thread on the forums? Glad to be here!
