  • Hi, folks - this is my first post. My name is Terry and I'm from Uniontown, OH (just south of Akron), and I'm really, really new to the 6x6 world. I'm a retired engineer from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. I came across your web site via a friend and decided to try out ATV'ing. I found an Attex ST300/D that looked to be in decent shape (I guess that's relative, eh), so now I'm on a quest to get it up and running. So, I'll be scouring your past posts to learn as much as I can about my "project". The previous owner claimed it ran last year, but it looks like it had a small fire in the engine compartment and the coil (?) looks shot, plus the spark plug wire is cut. I haven't had a chance to thoroughly clean it up and inspect all the mechanicals yet. The wiring diagram I already found on the site should be a big help. I'd like to show you some pics of my 'treasure', but I can't figure out how to attach them to this post (I guess I'm just as new to "posting" as I am to ATV'ing !). If anyone has any tips on what to look for as I clean it up and repair the fire damage, I'd greatly appreciate the comments. I'll keep you posted as I make progress (which should start to happen as soon as this never-ending winter weather finally retreats !);

      • Hey Papa,

        Whipper & I are Buckeye transplants. Get that thing running & try to make it to Ashtabula for racing & riding in June. You won't regret it.

            Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

              • Hello out there! My name is Terry and I have wanted to get one of these machines for years but the demands of life and family kind of got priority. I am looking for an 8x8 and have met Don, at "Argo"in Va Beach. His machines got my pressure up and that is for sure. I live in Williamsburg, Va and have a place in the Northern Neck. I am learning the computer "thang", as I go, so bear with me. I know very little about AATV's except I sure do like the idea. How is the best way to get into a machine other than new? I am a retired comm airplane mechanic and can fix almost anything. I would like to get a used machine that I can get into and see what makes it live and then decide what I need. The 8x8 is the top end for me but the factory sure is proud of them. I retired in 2005 and do not have the income that I once had so I will take this as it comes. Hope to meet you all out there someday. TR

                  • Hi Terry,

                    Welcome to the site. For a used machine look here in the classified section, on ebay, and on craigslist. You can also post a wanted ad in the classifieds here on the site. If you are patient you can always find a good deal somewhere. Look around and be sure to read the Used ATV Buyer's guide before you purchase anything. Good luck!

                    • Good morning all! I'm a new member here and just thought I'd say hello. I just picked up a 2000 MaxIV that is basically brand new yesterday for a song (I think; is $2500 for a machine with less than 10hours and no dirt on it ever a song?) and am looking foward to taking her out and stretching her mud/sea legs! I'm going to fab up a cage and install a winch, so hopefully you guys will be cool with some questions. I'll be happy to document the fabrication and submit some info here in exchange for some measurements! Anyways, that a subject for another thread, just wanted to say hello from St. Louis. Thanks!

                              Well, I had the baby with me so the Jeep had to do the hauling. Normally it will be pulled around by this:

                              I'm a big old Ford truck guy, as well as anything that moves under it's own power...

                              • That's great to hear! I have the paperwork with it so I know it's legit. The guy had it advertised on craigslist as a " 6 wheel Amphibian" under the RV heading, so I think it got overlooked by most people. He wanted $2750 but I talked him down to $2500 since he hadn't had any interested parties. It was on there for about a month.
