  • My name is Dave and I split my time between Cincinnati and Albany, Ky. I just purchased three 6x6's. Two Sidewinders and One Scrambler. They are baskets cases, but I already got the Scrambler running with a Vanguard engine. One of my first priorities is a transmission. I have an Apex in one of the Sidewinders, but need another one. I have been reading the forum for the past week and have gotten a little information I need. If anyone has a T-20 reasonable priced, I would be interested.

      • Hi I am Dan
I have been reading so much and enjoying the pic's on this sight. I have a 197ish Amphicat that I am trying to resurrect. I have completely stripped down the 6 wheeler to nothing and now slowly rebuilding. The 6 wheeler never ran, bad tires, frozen chains and beat up body. It was a mess. I have sandblasted and painted the frame. Doing the body work now. I will have the body line-x. I am looking for some help. The 6 wheeler was given to me with a bombardier 264 cc engine and with the 2 speed tranny with reverse(Amphicat). I think the engine may have came out of a Elan Skidoo? The issue is that the primary clutch on the engine is to wide to match the secondary clutch. What are my options? Change engine and clutch? Look for a new clutch for this engine? Any help would be great.
        Thanks Dan

          • Hi Dave, it sounds like you already have a small collection of AATVs started. Try starting a new thread in the wanted forum for the T20. Welcome to the site.

Chris, welcome to the site and congratulations on your Max IV. When you pick it up you will see how easy it is to adjust the chains. Just loosen the bolt that holds the idler sprocket tight, slide the sprocket to make the chains tighter or pry it tighter with a piece of wood. Then tighten the bolt back down. For the chains coming from the transmission you loosen a lock nut and tighten the other one. Again, it will be pretty self explanatory when you are standing in front of it.

Hi Dan, welcome to the site. You may want to start a new thread in the forum titled "Other AATVs" so that others will see your question better. You can try to get another clutch for your engine. Do you know what size shaft the motor has? Also, what are the widths of both of your clutches? Finally, did you get an old belt with the machine? If so what size is it. That information would probably be helpful when you start your new thread.

Again, welcome to all the new members!

                  • Hello, eh!

                    Hi all from British Columbia,

I just got my first ever ATV. I`m lucky enough to have it be a mid 1980s Argo 8x8 Conquest. I`ve only gone around my back yard with her and I already in love. I`m sure I`ll have many questions and a few answers in the future. Just thought I would say hi.

                      • Hi just joined the club. Started reading on this site after I purchased a 1994 max II. Site has already helped me out. Glad to see there is a place to go to discuss the unique features of the 6x6.

                        • hello, my name is Dale, and i traded my pick-up for an 1986 argo 6x6 recently. the former owner was a member of this site, and my new toy already has a 6x6 world bumper sticker.

I live in the okanagan (British Columbia, Canada.) and i don't think there are too many amphibious atv's in these parts. I'm not sure where the nearest dealer is....maybe 5 hours away in Vancouver, so i may be relying on this site for home made repair ideas, or internet links for parts quite a bit.

My machine was in pretty good shape when i got her. the hour meter only had 42 hours on it. the seats are in great shape, the issues i had were an older battery which i don't entirely trust and will soon be replaced, and two tires which didn't hold air very long, which i fixed by adding that tire seal in a can stuff.

so far i'm pretty impressed with this machine. I've had it in the water a few times and up the mountain. it doesn't climb hills very fast, but it's still fun.

O.K., i guess thats enough about me, just wanted to say "hello" and "great site". also i'm interested in a set of tracks for a reasonable price if anybody has any tips for me. Thanx again..............

                          Dale

                          • Hay Mike,
I gust got my first 6 wheeler, Max 2 with a 16 hp tecumseh. It looks like it won't be to hard to get going.
I got this ride on a trade for services, I put a garage door in for a guy and he gave it to me with a trailer. Not bad hu.
The carb was bad. I have one on its way. Where do you guys buy your parts for this? I need cables, ? chains, Tires. I plan on getting it running for the fall hunting season then taking it down to the frame and fixing some thin areas. The axles look like they will be a @. Any tips ?
Hope to hear from some of you guys soon.

                            • Hey Wade,
Awesome deal! You can get new parts at-- Amphibious Six-Wheel Drive All-Terrain Vehicles: MaxATVs - Call 1-800-255-2511

If you want used parts go to the classified section and post a wanted ad. Someone might have it laying around.

The axles arent to hard. Loosen the set screw and locking collar on the bearings and they should pull out. Depending on the bearing but normally the collars are the essentric locking collars that need to twist to loosen.
If you run into troubles feel free to ask in the max section of the site. It probably gets more attention then this thread.
Good luck and welcome to the site!
