  • Hello everyone. i am new to this whole forum stuff so please go easy lol. My name is Bob and i just picked up a sierra trail boss that was sittin in a backyard of a friend for years. i recently started reading ALOT of info on these rigs and am anxious to get some valuable info from you guys who would know better than anyone. i have always wanted one and scored this old sierra for pretty much nothing. it is basically in mint condition with minor things wrong with it. Like i said it sat for years but i drug it home and popped a new plug in her and she fired on the second pull of the rope. it has the kohler 295cc 2 stroke and a tilly hr38a. the tilly is in the process of a rebuild as i speak. looking forward to hearing from you guys.

    • I am new to this site. I am looking to purchase 1971 Attex I seen on sale down the road. I know nothing about them but they look like fun. I am 75 years old and need something new to play with. I believe it is never too late to have a happy childhood. They are asking $1000. Is this about right? What should I watch for before buying it. I live in Southern Michigan.

      • Hello Bob, welcome to the site. Have fun with your Trail Boss.

Hi grandpaputtputt, welcome to the site. There is a multi-page Used ATV Buyer's Guide that goes through most of the basic things to look for here: Used ATV Buyer's Guide Without knowing more, it's hard to say whether it is worth $1000 but that is in the ballpark for a running machine in decent shape.

        • Ha. I'm a new viewer. I am researching amphibious atvs. I live in Florida on 10,000 acres of swamp and lake system. Do to large population growth big government has taken our Water and transferring it to the big cities have a john boat with go devil and airboat just sitting No water. I never heard of aatv until a couple of mounts ago. This may be the answer to a prayer. A lot, of guys are running 4x4 ATV. I like to stay dry when the temperature drops down. From what I see on video an aatv should get me to my tree stands I didn’t get to hunt this season and really work well in the duck blind. I hope to get one in the next couple months. An argo is what I’m looking at. But a max is much lower in cost. This site is really informative. JB.

                • Meet Keith, Cindy and Jason Hills

Hi guys. My name is Keith Hills and I thought I would throw a little info about our 6x6 on here.

My wife Cindy and I purchased a Max II new in 95 as sort of an impulse buy. It turned out to be a great purchase. We used the heck out of it. Running the trails, getting firewood, hauling leaves, working in the garden, looking for the horse when it ran off, swimming in the pond, hunting in the marsh and of coarse just driving around for fun, the Max was part of it. The years past by, the Max got a new battery, a throttle cable, a new band for the trans and kept on going. At some point the throttle cable stuck again and the engine over revved and a pushrod bent. It sat in the garage for a couple years, then outside for a couple more. This winter I repaired the Max and my son Jason who is now 10 went 6 wheeler crazy. We had to show him video of him riding in it when he was 2 and 3 years old. He just could not remember it and could not believe it took me so long to repair it. We started using the Max every day again.

Now there are spots on our property that The Max could never go and I would tell my son that we would need bigger tires or tracks to maybe get through. Why don't we have tracks then he asked? I didn't know. Why didn't we? The quest was on. I started checking on line. Reading this forum. Joining the forum. Researching how to modify the Max. Talked to Jim (thebuggyman1), Tim (Obsessed), Matt at MuddOx. Lots of information to digest. I needed a machine for recreation, light work. Mud, woods, marsh, pond in the summer and snow and ice in the winter AND 3 people. All these terrains in one outing.

The decision was made and the old Max II is moving to a friend of the family. An Argo Bigfoot was bought and taken directly to Tim at Adair Argo where he, Mike and John gave it a complete inspection, some new synthetic axle bearings and a set of Adair tracks.

There is no spot on our property we cannot now access. A new trail even runs through the previously impassible Mud bog. The family loves it.

Now being new to tracks I had to have a backup plan so I grabbed a set of AquaTorques for use when not tracked up.

Next stop is to see Doug (foxvalley). Doug has graciously offered to allow us to test the new machine and tracks on his property this Saturday. Look for videos soon I would expect.

                  Keith.

                    • Keith, welcome (officially) to the site and thank you for such a great introduction. That was a great story. I'm glad you are back in the hobby again thanks to your son. Your Bigfoot looks great. I look forward to the video.

Brock, welcome to the site. If you will search the site, you should be able to find a little information about putting a diesel in a six wheeler. You could also try starting a new thread in the Argo forum.

                        • Hello all,

I have been reading this awesome forum ever since I got my old Argo a few weeks ago. It has been very helpful for me already with the brake job I just did on her. I am a graduate student at Virginia Tech, I love to duck hunt in the swamps, hence my new obsession with Argos. I like fixing things myself, but will need some coaching along the way. Thanks in advance!

                          Greg

Hi Joe, this site is great and full of information on ALL models of 6x6. Just put some time aside each day and read, read, read. I also did a lot of searching on my area Craigs lists and if you have a local 6x6 dealer stop in and see if you can take a drive. Keep at it and you will find the perfect one or it will find you. All a matter of perspective.

Hey Greg, The Argo is really cool. We really enjoy ours. Just post any questions and from what have read someone is sure to point you in the right direction. Tim at Adair Argo (Obsessed) also has parts and upgrades not to mention the best tracks on the planet.

                              Keith.
