  • Hello Folks,

I am a new member, my name is Dave Furnish and I live in Bastrop Texas. I have a max iv and I am in the process of restoring it from top to bottom. We live on the Colorado river and would like to use the max iv to explore the river. The river has some shallow areas with rock bars etc. That is why this machine is so appealing, having the capability to run up on the rock bars and into the water will be ideal.

I am not sure of the year, I believe it is an older model with 18hp Vanguard Briggs. We did use it some a couple years ago but it sat at my sons house for a couple years with flat tires, bad starter etc. We were busy with other priorities but now we are doing a complete overall. In the process of stripping it completely down and starting from the ground up. Started removing the inter frame last night having some trouble with removing the set screw on axel collars.

We plan on making some modes to increase the performance in the water, we have fabricated some small outriggers for side to side stability, and made some paddles out of stainless steel that we plan to mount to the rims. If this doesn’t give us the desired performance we have a couple outboard motors and will mount one of them. The undercarriage frame has a lot of rust, that is why we are taking it all apart. I have ordered ne tires they are on the way.

We plan on having it all done in a couple weeks. I will post some pics and let you know how the modifications turn out.

I have used this site to gather some info and it has been very helpful. So thanks to all you posters.

    Best Regards,
    Dave

        • Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Chad, I live in Maine... deep in the woods surrounded by swamp, streams, and mud. I picked up my first 6x6 this weekend. I bought a 2000 Max II and it's the best/coolest machine I've ever owned. I'm excited to do some modifications and make it my own. I have a bunch of questions but will check the for the answers in the database before asking because I figure most of them have been asked and answered already. Anyway thanks for the cool site and it's nice to meet you all.

          • Welcome Chad. Sounds like you live in an ideal place to own an AATV. Enjoy your Max II.

            • My names Pete and I live in Cold Lake, Alberta. I've never owned an amphibious ATV but some day I will. The reason I joined is that I spied something in a farm yard when I picked up an old ATC90 that might appeal to the Amphicat owners out there. It's an actual Amphicat trailer. I know they show them on the brochure but this one looks a bit different. It's currently flipped upside down but the sticker is readable. It's red/white and made of fibreglass. I didn't ask the owner about it yet. I'm thinking this is kind of a hard to find item?

I am from Belgium / near Brugge and have driven offroad since I was 8 years old (38 now). An amphibious vehicle has always been high on my wishlist but hard to find here. Learning a lot a here. Thanks.

                • Good day and good health to all!
I am the owner of ARGO Avenger 750 EFI with 2008.
                  Drive about 1800 kilometers.
Very good car, but requires careful management skills, or in the middle of the swamp 10 kilometers deeper than 2 meters all may end for the driver and passengers is very bad.

Create an improvised tent and frame for it, mud flaps, set track.

I want to install it outboard Mercury 5 horsepower, looking diagrams and dimensions of the transom.

Pete, I would think that it is a somewhat rare item. Do you have a picture of it that you can post? Why don't you start a new thread in the "Other AATVs" section of the site so everyone can discuss the trailer. Since this is mainly an introduction thread, only a handful of us check this thread on a regular basis.
