Hello all,

My name is Don and I live down in Richlands NC. I recently retired from the Marine Corps and have been riding up at Busco Beach now for about 5 years.
I recently bought a 1992 max II and absolutly love it. I own 3 other ATV's/UTV's but love where this 6 wheeler can take me.
I just met a bunch of you guys this past weekend and actually love the hospitality of the group, my thanks to Lewis, joe and Lance for advice, ALMOST having to tow my in off my 3rd ride, and for the Food at lunch!
I'll sing off for now but will post pictures of my machine soon!

Hi I'm 450 Marlin
I just picked an Argo 8 X 8 with the wrong blown engine 2 weeks ago. I gutted the engine compartment. I put all new bearings, seals and cleaned up the gears in the transmission. I repowered it with a brand new Honda GX 390 engine with electric start and 18 amp charging system. I bought a new Argo primary clutch. I made a dash cover out of 1/4" black umhw to hide all old holes and strarted from scratch. The guy butchered the hood area so I covered it with the same plastic and cut new hole for hood. still not done with top around hood. I built an exhaust system and made the 7" duct for the air intake on the engine recoil. I made the air filter holder and intake out of ABS pipe. This was a big task and I did it in nine days to take it moose hunting.

Hi, I'm Yankedriver from Temagami (northern Ontario Canada) I just bought an Amphicat that is hopefully going to be my winter project. I owned one about 20 years ago it had a twin 300 kohler in it and was in much better shape than this one, that has a CCW single in it. apparently it hasn't ran in 20 years (looks like it too) the plastic is brittle and full of cracks. I'll get it running and see if the drive train is any good, and if not I'll probably just part it out.

Hello Everyone, I just discovered this site yesterday and it looks like a good place for me to be right now since I just purchased an 04 Argo Conquest. I have never driven one and have only been in one once before so I am a real virgin to the 6X6 and 8X8 world. I am planning on taking delivery of the Conquest around the first of Nov. I have to drive to Grand Junction Co. to pick it up and it won't be ready this weekend. I'm getting the windshield, soft top, and tracks put on before taking delivery. This unit has 235 hours on it. Is that still considered low hours? How long do these things run with proper mantainence? I'm buying it to access my snow bound elk area in late Nov. I thought about putting tracks on my Grizzly but I wanted something that my wife and I could both go together and be somewhat comfortable. We don't see many of these in Wyoming and the only one I've ever been in was on an elk hunt in Colorado, I was very impressed with what the machine could do in deep enough snow to stop a 4X4 Grizzly. Thanks everyone in advance for any info. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions, but for now I'm going through the archives.

Hi iluvfishin, welcome to the site and congratulations on your first 8x8. 235 hours is pretty normal for a 2004 model. The only thing you may have to replace at that time would possibly be bearings depending on how well it was maintained, if it spent a lot of time in mud,water, etc., and whether or not they have already been replaced. Some people get a lot of hours out of their bearings and others only get a couple of hundred. Other than that, just check the normal things outlined in the Used ATV Buyer's Guide and you should be fine. Let us know how you like it when you finally get to bring it home.

Thanks Mike---It's sitting at Argo Outdoor Sports in Grand Junction. I bought it by the pictures and talking to the salesman about it. He said they ran it through their shop and it is field ready. I hope they are a reputable dealer that wouldn't sell me a unit with a bad bearing or bearings. I guess I'll find out. I was told they were a greasable bearing. Does that mean they'll last a long time with proper mantainence or do they wear out in a couple of hundred hours even with proper care?

Hi i am Alfonso from Guatemala Central America, i get i MAX IV 1993, with 16 hp, about one year ago, wiht my brother we are changin the engine to SUZUKI G10 engine 1 Liter, because here in Guatema we have to much mountain and volcanos when wwe have a picture.

Hi Alfonso, welcome to the site. I would love to see some pictures of your Max IV in the mountains and near the volcano. That would be very cool.

iluvfishin, most of our bearings are greasable and will be fine for many years of service. I didn't mean to make you worry about them. I'm sure if a dealer went over the machine that is one of the first things they checked. The bearings only need to be replaced when they have excessive play present. You can check this by jacking your machine up and grabbing the tire and trying to move the axle. You shouldn't be able to move the axle side to side or up and down. If you have excessive movement (more than just a wiggle) that is a sign that your bearings need to be replaced.

Hi, I'm Jon. I've had my 1974 Terra Tiger for about 6 years now, and 2 years ago my covering failed (it was in open storage) ruining/rusting alot of parts. I had this week off so I tore into it and got it running. The brakes still don't work (locked up with rust), but I'll get them done soon. The rains have begun so the mud will follow and I want to be ready for it!

More about it: When I got it the PO had replaced the clutch bells and cleaned it up pretty well. It has lights,turn signals, brake lights,etc and licensed for the street. I don't have current tags, but plan on it . The engine is a JLO 395 with a polaris tranny. The only bummer is NO REVERSE!! I have a winch that needs to be installed too.I saw a picture in another thread of a Terra Tiger with bucket seats...probably gonna do that too. It just looks way more comfy.

Hi All!
Just Purchased our first Max! It's a Max2 and is a 1977 with JLO engine! It was kind of running when we picked it up but needed a little maintenance and love! Had a few holes in the Hull but they welded very easy and we took it swimming later that day! We are in MA and look forward to playing with this new toy!
